Not as much of a twat as I feel for paying income tax while you were pissing it up the wall.

Twas ever thus- the mutual joshing between the horny handed sons of toil bent low under the heavy burden laid upon them by an unthinking Brown or Darling and the callow generation of starry eyed youths taking their first uncertain steps on lifes winding and uncertain highway blinking and wondering at the prospect of untold riches strewn before them.

Wow this is turning a bit nasty. In the words of Harry Enfield: "Ey, ey, calm down, calm down"

Skashion please don't take this the wrong way but I was exactly the same as you when I came out of University with a BA (2.1). I was proud of my 'working class' roots and hated toffs and all they stood for.

8 years later and in that time I've worked for a company, been made redundant, gone self-employed, worked very hard, made my company quite successful, paid sh*t loads of tax as a result, been badly hit by the recession, moved to the countryside, got married, started a family.

In that time Labour have shat all over me. They put corporation tax up from 19% to 21% (going up to 22%) which has dented my company's profits. They have spent my taxes on all manner of wastage and seem to want to give as much of my money as possible to 'people less fortunate', and they have the cheek to call that 'fair'. I'm all for giving to charity but not if I'm forced to and most of the money is wasted. Labour don't understand the countryside at all, they seem to want to tax cars out of existence but it's easy for them when they can just jump on a tram or tube to get to places. How the fuck am I supposed to take my daughter to play group or go shopping, or go anywhere in the countryside without a car??

The way they have handled the admittedly global recession has been nothing short of gobsmacking - spend more - sorry more cuts than Thatcher - err - are you having a laugh Darling?????

I wasn't interested in politics until I started working and the governments decisions started having a direct impact on my life and my income. The more I think about it, the less left wing I become. Now I have a daughter I want paedos locked up for life or castrated, not 'rehabilitated' so they can roam free and potentially target my daughter. Same for rapists, murderers, even burglars. I don't want to be locked up if someone breaks into my house and I hit them with a baseball bat.

Admittedly I don't expect the tories to change much straight away but anything they do change will be a step in the right direction.

The thread is not only about marginals and FPTP. It is about Labour and the next election, unless you want to PM the OP and get him to change the title. Hence why De Niro sees that are new our of Uni, all excited having completed your degree with your lefty idiology and as he is a hard bitten old timer ;) - I would say he does not reckon your opinions to be based on life experience (I don't think he was talking about marginals or FPTP either).
Why do you feel it necessary to talk on other peoples behalf?- and FFS stop brown nosing.

And your very funny post on letting a poster use your made up certificate was not brown nosing, or funny actually.

But the post he quoted was about marginals and FPTP. Why would you quote something and then talk about something completely different? No, De Niro doesn't see that I'm new out of Uni, he thinks my 'diploma' is fictional. Not many lefties left on campus these days you'll be glad to hear. Not on mine anyway - which used to be a very left-wing uni. True, my opinions are not based on life experience. Not had much of a chance yet so that's a non-starter. Marx had some decent life experience though, and Orwell.

The only 'life experiences' I have are these; being £18,000 in debt; living independently for three years in a serious relationship; being a self-employed graduate during a recession. That's about it. At the tender age of 22 I have a lot of life left to live. *fingers crossed*

However, once again, irrelevant to the post he quoted and the degree I apparently don't have.

I would assume he was quoting you just so that you knew it was aimed at you. I know I have done so in the past.

-- Mon Mar 29, 2010 3:15 pm --

I got one, and used it. Made lots of people money, made myself a bit in the process. Paid lots of tax. Never claimed a benefit but I was still labelled a parasite as I am going to vote Tory - that is what this thread is about - Nice balanced opinions.

To think that offering someone a made up poster is brown nosing is quite surreal but I do apologise for forgetting that a sense of humour is notoriously lacking amongst the Hitler Youth (or Hitler Aged.)

No room for a sense of humour in a political debate, dontcha know?

So let me get this straight mr namby pamby guardian reader (you work in education yeah), because I am going to vote Conservative, that now makes me a Nazi?

Is that what you are saying?

So do you think I want Jews and gays to be gassed also? Is that what you mean? I just want to be straight on this point.

How much does your company earn and how many people does it employ?

Earnings have wildly fluctuated, and its just me and the wife.

I don't read the Guardian, I don't work in education, I don't think that you want Jews or gays to be gassed, it amuses me to see the pompous of all shades riding their high horse. I do think you snap at bait rather easily. You mentioned earlier (sarcastically I presumed) nice balanced opinions-I think nice unbalanced opinions liven up a thread from time to time.

How wildly? ;) Just yourself and the wife. So it's all your own labour. I have a lot of sympathy with you in that case. I agree with you on pretty much everything else. I don't like this Labour government. I don't like its attacks on civil liberties, its nanny-state obsession, its attacks on the car. You're right, they don't understand the countryside. I'm under no illusions about Labour but I still think they're better than unreformed Thatcherites. If you don't agree, fair enough, that's subjective disagreement.

Ok, let's agree to disagree :)

fine by me, just make sure we get rid of these robbing fuckers.

I don't think we will. In our area for instance it's about 80,000 voters for one seat. In the inner cities there would be 2 seats for that many voters, and they traditionally vote Labour. The tories have to win by a massive landslide to avoid a hung parliament and I don't think that will happen.

We'll be run by a Lab/Lib pact for the next 5 years. Bye bye entrepreneurship, hello Europe. :(

Can't see why you'd think the tories are more anti-Europe than Labour.

Because Labour promised a referendum on the Treaty, then didn't give us one.

Tories have been banging on about having one for years, but they can't legally have one now because the treaty has been ratified.

Trust me, with the exception of Ken Clarke, the Tories are more anti-Europe than Labour.

I like Europe, I just don't think it's sensible that our laws are made in Brussels.

Labour are the only party ever to give us a referendum on Europe and the tories took us in the first place. The tories also signed the Single European Act and then the Maastricht Treaty. Doesn't sound very anti-European to me. Just seems to be vote-grabbing rhetoric to be honest.

Labour should have kept their promise on Lisbon, absolutely they should have, but it still doesn't compare unfavourably to the tories' dismal record.
