Here, there, and every fucking where
i know it should be on the off topic thread but no one will ever read it on there so here goes....Sat down with the missus last night to discuss holidays for next summer. The boring usual shite came us, spain, tenerife, cuba, dominican etc etc. then i said what about Abu Dhabi or Dubai to which see seemed really up for. Been on the internet tonight doing some looking into it and im not sure what to think of the place. It looks stunning, all the big hotels and "the palm" and "the world" but what is there to actually do??? I cant sit still when on holiday and i dont sunbath. Would rather catch the sun whilst pissing about in the sea, play football pool etc with other lads. Do other people like me go there and what is there to do when you are actually there, is there good excursions and stuff to do. any help would be appreciated. cheers

Dubai and Abu Dhabi get very hot and humid in the summer, up to around 45 - 50 C and must be over 80% humidity. A lot of the residents here leave for cooler places during the summer months. Another thing to be wary of is Ramadan, it will probably be most of August next year.
Right now things are cooling down at last, probably around 35C and the humidity is more bearable. Around November / December and March / April we usually get rain, only a few days but when it rains it tends to be heavy, roads get flooded because there isn't much in the way of drainage (what there is probably clogs up with sand during the summer.
As for things to do, not sure about Abu Dhabi but Dubai has a lot of nightlife, plenty of clubs and bars, but expect to pay between 4 and 6 quid for a pint...
I'd say the next 6 months are probably the best time to visit this part of the world to be honest, btw, there is a LOT of construction work going on in Dubai, the glossys won't show you that...
Traffic can be a problem, but the metro should be up and running by next year.
So there you go...
Oh, yeah, there are a lot of city tours, desert trips etc., plenty of things going on most of the year (apart from Ramadan)

The UAE is full of things to do apart from shopping and eating!

I go to the coast of Sharjah wtice a month to jetski.

We drive out to the other emirates to go diving, sight seeing, stay at some of the more local hotels and enjoy relaxing weekends.

We go to the weekend markets in the other emirates that are full of great things to see.

Drive to Fujairah and catch a Dow over to Musandam, enjoy a whole day sailing into some scheduled bays, go snorkelling, swimming and see some breath taking views.

Go to the Autodrome in Dubai and go carting or drive a single seater race car around a great out door track.

Everyone has to do the Desert Safari.

From November to January we have Global Village - a good night out for the family.

And there is much more!

I am an emarati....and i would suggest u to NEVER EVER come to the emirates in the summer...it's burning hot and humid....i myself escape to england during the summer season...the best months to visit the emirates would be between november and march....during december till february tempratures are around 23 in the noon and drops down to 15 at night.

Don't come here in the summer. It's far too hot, you have to stay indoors all the time and all the decent bars are shut (because they are outdoor). Plus, as Roy said, Ramadan will take up much of August next year.

Personally, while I enjoy living here, I have never seen the attraction of coming here on holiday; there are so many other places that are much cheaper, have much nicer people, and are generally a much better overall experience.

There's a lot of stuff to do in The Emirates if you can find it, but most of it's just so inaccessible for tourists or involves getting ripped off by tour companies. It's a great place to live or visit friends who live here and know where everything is, but it's a bit of a nightmare for tourists if I'm being honest.

I know it's a long flight from England, but I went to Bali last summer and it was brilliant; cheap, great food and nightlife, loads of things to do, stunning scenery, really friendly people, and fantastic weather. Would definitely recommend it if you're quite active and don't want to spend your whole holiday lying on a sunlounger.
