The Rail, Maritime and Transport Union leader Bob Crow has died at the age of 52, according to the Press Association.

It's on the BBC now.

I didn't mind Crow as it happens. He was a strong personality, which is needed in that line of work, and I certainly never had a problem with his salary, as someone running a Union that size should be well rewarded for it. Never got the hate about him living in municipal housing either.

I expect it was heart related. Once you get over 50 carrying extra timber carries much greater risk, that's for sure.

RIP.

Blimey must of been a heart attack. Bet he and Thatcher are at it hammer and tongs already if you believe in all that after life stuff. Not really much to say on the guy as such, I didn't like him as much as I didn't hate him. Sad for his family obviously and in fair terms was still youngish.

Crow got a right slagging off by the two muppets on Sky News review of the papers last night.

Am guessing they feel a bit bad this morning. Though as they are journos probably not.

RIP

A fighter for his people, I understand he was loved by his members. He certainly stood up for their interests. A great loss to the trade union movement.

RIP Bob

Sad news.

It wasn't official but the word was he'd decided to step down at the end of this term of office.

I was at the funeral of a good mate just last year in which he gave a moving speech about the guy and commented how after a life time serving the union, it was such a shame he wouldn't be able to have at least a few years living a peaceful retirement. And now it turns out the same words apply to himself.

This will more than likely degenerate into a, he was ****/ no he wasn't, thread. But I'll put a pound on not one of the people who speak badly of him, having ever actually met him or have any idea of anything about him other than what they've seen in the media.

I certainly didn't know him well but the times I did meet him, he was a gentlemen and as dedicated to his job as anybody could be.

I may tell the story tomorrow, when I have more time of when he went well beyond what anybody could reasonably expect of a bloke in his position, to help me out.
