Sadly Bob died yesterday in his hometown of Bolton.

Those who recognise the name will remember he was one of the comedians featured by James Stannage on Piccadilly Radio, alongside people like Jasper Carrott & Mike Harding.

Saw him a few times and he was a very funny guy.

Oh No!...used to love Bob....still know all the words to 'the garden of love'...last seen in Phoenix nights I think, as one of those auditioning turns at the end...

I am sure Bob did a song called Don't Cry For My Old Cortina(@1979/80) which was a spoof on Don't Cry For Me Argentina (from Evita).
Quite funny at the time though.
He did a few spoofs. Hollands Meat Pies was based on Ebony Eyes by The Everly Brothers.
And there was another based on the Wombles which started "Under our overcoats dangling free, the flashers of Farnworth and District are we..."

He was "nearly famous". I've just informed the wife we're having kippers for tea. (kisses for me).

Oh no.
I saw Carrott, Harding and Bob back in the 70s and Bob was easily the best. I thought he'd go on to be a more national figure like Connolly but it never happened for him. Sad news.

RIP.

Yes he was on twice. Worked at a club about 80/81 and he was the turn. Think he did national telly a couple of times as well. Never seemed to have that bit of confidence to push himself. Funny guy.

Used to love him when I was younger. Died on Sunday. Him, Mike Harding, Jasper Carrot all about the same time were brilliant. his skit on Mull of Kintyre was great.
My skull is on fire
pissed up rolling home from the pub
my desire
is only to wee here

What a great shame, I knew he had been very ill for quite a while as Bernard Wrigley (The Bolton Bullfrog) who was a great friend to Bob and was acting as a seller for Bob's albums had mentioned it.

Saw him live several times in the late 70s and almost pissed myself laughing on each and every occasion. He didn't look well when he had a couple of cameo roles as 'turns' on Phoenix Nights but had no idea he'd actually passed away.

Very very sad news and my condolences to Bob's family & friends.

Two threads to denote his passing? Must have been popular.
Saw him at the old social club at Maine Road in the late 70s. Very funny indeed.
