Agreed, Bobby Madley is a ****, but not in this case
Hence my caveat. Given the age we live in, however, would you be totally shocked if it closely resembled the truth? No way that is 100% truth. The punishment massively outweighs the crime, and surely he'd have taken it further, unfair dismissal etc??
Also being serious, or drunk and a little bit stoned...Being serious for a moment, if correct, absolutely fucking ridiculous and outrageous that he lost his livelihood and career over that.
That’s fair comment, but he’s had a while to compose it. I suppose if it’s a long way from the truth, then it will out, given the manner and detail in which he’s posted it. I think that makes it more likely to be true, than not. Also
I just read that and it all seemed a little contrived and trying too hard.
Yeah, I could have it completely wrong, I accept that. Just when I read the whole thing I didn’t once get a sense of it being heartfelt. That’s fair comment, but he’s had a while to compose it. If correct, it’s yet another example of how offending someone (or in this instance, potentially offending someone) is seen as about the worst imaginable infringement in the workplace. Ridiculous state of affairs and where the fuck will it end?
Agree about the benefit of reading people mano a mano, but that isn’t a panacea, and I’m sure, like me, you can still get that wrong from time to time. Some people are simply very convincing liars and others appear shifty when telling the truth.
And then there’s Prince Andrew.
That’s because you’re pissed and stoned.Yeah, I could have it completely wrong, I accept that. Just when I read the whole thing I didn’t once get a sense of it being heartfelt.
Not to say that what he went through isn’t horrific and potentially something that could have resulted in serious mental issues, but like I say, it didn’t resonate with me sympathy wise.
That’s when I’m at my best :-)That’s because you’re pissed and stoned.
Same to you, buddy xThat’s when I’m at my best :-)
happy new year x

I wish I was as street-wise as you.I would imagine it was the evidence they needed to get rid of him for other things.
Lying bastard fits a 46.Still can’t believe he’s only 34. Fucking hell.
He did, but it meant nothing to him.
Absolutely agree. Not an "I'm sorry", more a "I'm sorry I got caught, but you've all done it too"Also being serious, or drunk and a little bit stoned...

Most of my life has involved having to read people in certain circumstances, (not unlike yourself)and although this is the written word and I’m not looking at the man face to face, I just don’t get the sincerity of his actions - only the regret of losing a job in a million.
Anyway, fuck him, he was a wank ref.
Why do you think it was correct to sack him for this (assuming his version of events is correct)?Seems inconsistent that they threw the book - rightly in my opinion - at Madeley for this but Clattenburg got away with what amounted to a criminal offence and continued to Ref (be it badly) for years.

Any compromise agreement would have had an NDA in surely, and one that would last more than a few months. That said, he might just have said ‘fuck it’!Sorry I was stating from an FA perspective. Given what was before them both should have been sacked. It’s a mystery why Madeley didn’t pursue a claim at the ET. My guess would be if you look at other cases with other Refs - there was some sort of compromise agreement which prevented Madeley bringing a legal case in return for the ‘cover story’. Madeley obviously now feels sufficiently aggrieved and confident to speak out but his legal options are all largely closed.
