Bodo/Glimt (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

The team has played eight games in 23 days, five of them away from home, with 11 players injured. It’s not rocket science that they might be a bit tired. The team we played tonight had a month and ten days to prepare for this game. Pep and the boys need our support, not bullshit.
The Norwegian team that hadn't won in the CL until tonight. Bullshit you say?

Painful to read some of the comments on guardiola, but a lot of it is fair.

That said, no manager, can out train, or out coach an appalling recruitment policy spanning 3 years.

It’s laughable listening to people arguing about the merits of who starts where, when it comes to sav, doku, cherki, Khus, Tij, Marmoush, Bobb, Nunes, Orielly, NIco G, RAN,. None of these lads are good enough to propel us back to where we want to be., it doesn’t make them terrible players, they just simply aren’t at the required levels to win the prem and CL.

As for the lads that have proven it in the past

Rodri - gets a pass due to 18 months out, but can he get back to where he was?

Earl & Phil, no excuses for how bad they have been, but I can’t imagine how demotivating it must be too see such a drop off in quality in such a short space of time.

It’s all about the league cup, it’s our only realistic chance of silverware and if he is to leave it would be fitting to see Pep go with one last trophy.

It’s time we demand more.

Pressure is well and truly off the club due to past success. Said the same last season. The bite has gone. We are bloated with trophies and commercial money that the drive has disappeared and it trickles down to the players.

Totally unacceptable from all involved with the club right down to the players on the field. Mediocre bullshit. Get a grip or I’m going back to wolves. Least we will be playing league 1 soon.

Stick that on the tv screen at the ethiad.

What’s Danny Tiatto doing theses days? Could be doing with a midfielder who tackles and bring back eidos aswell.

The worst that happens is that we end up in the 9 - 24 play off group and hope we avoid a decent team. At that stage we'll have Rodri back from suspension, Berrnardo , Guehi and Semenyo available and one or two of the injured group back.
Guehi and Semenyo can’t play in the play offs

But pep is part of the recruitment problem wanting a small squad while hanging onto the old reliables for too long. Aging injury prone players being kept along with buying shite. Although I do think our latest 2 are decent but maybe they are presents for the new manager coming in

He’s not Pep.

Pep wants the slow, sideways, backwards, passing football.

If you want the Klopp and Ljinders football, it needs to be full metal football.

No, but we used to have an intense pressing game. We lost that last season and bringing Ljinders in suggested that might be one of the qualities he may help bring back to the side.

The reality is that we are living with a team which we still oddly associate with that of 4-years ago when, to be frank, it isn't - we see it but do we really 'accept' it?. World-class players have gone and for the most part been replaced with good players, but not world-class replacements. The over-reliance on Haaland has been an error, we were I think a more solid team the 2-seasons we operated without an actual forward/striker. We've played far too often with 10 men, especially in the recent games, that's not sustainable, added to which is the disappearance of Foden, whats happened to him? Even some of the new buys are struggling to live up to reputations - Reijnders and Cherki show flashes but not much consistency. Certainly the injuries in defense since Christmas have been devastating and we are reaping the consequences of this. However, I cannot but help feel that Pep's time is drawing to its close and we probably ought to be seriously preparing for life when he's gone. I do feel he is now being found wanting too often over the past 15-months and Pep, like all great 'leaders', has become too ridged in his approach, too wedded to certain players - and ideas/tactics - which others have flattered Pep by copying, but more so, have now found ways to overcome. I would rather he went with his reputation solidly intact - as it should be - rather than be witness to a slow painful decline over the remains of this season then 26-27. I'd like to think we win some silverware this season, one of the cups and that would be Pep's farewell gift to the club.
Using false 9's like in the past won't work in a man to man system, it's why you now see big number 9's in all the top teams. This physicality explains some of Foden's struggles and makes Reijnders look like a questionable buy.
Guardiola hasn't demonstrated tactical inflexibility, he's transitioned away from positional play to a running style. We now have Doku, Marmoush, Semenyo, Savinho, Haaland all of which are more suited to a more direct style. In Donnarumma we see Guardiola foregoing a sweeper keeper for a shot stopper and looking to bypass rather than play through the press.

We are in the middle of an - overdue - squad rebuild, a rebuild that has to accommodate this current tactical transition and we're doing it with kids during a major injury crisis.

Maybe Guardiola won't be successful in this new meta but I think he's more than earned the right to patience and to be judged on his performances with a fully fit squad.

Think he wants to bow out after winning a trophy, so it’s either this years Carabao or he’s here for another decade

Will Guehi and Semenyo be available for the play off? I presumed they wouldn’t be
Edit. Just checked, they’re not! :(
Last year Khus and Nico played in the playoffs...

These losses for me are a result of the team being decimated with injuries, at the same time as us being in four competitions, some of our leading players sre absolutely knackered.
You can see it.
The United game came at a bad time after a very difficult trip to Newcastle in the league cup, where as the United players had just been on a Big break so they were fresh.... I think being in four competitions is taking its toll and we are losing games we would normally win.
Players are not able to recover between games it's getting ridiculous.
I'm not blaming anybody, least of all Pep.
Absolutely, not a happy clapper but Pep had to rely on players available.Bodo made their advantages of the familiarities,ie pitch and climate to their full extent.Young Max misread two situations on the artificial pitch which lead to two goals although what Donny was doing for the first god knows!
Hopefully Guehi and Semenyo settle on Saturday and Nico G is back.

Heartbreaking to see the state of this team / squad from what it was in such a short time ago it seems like the blink of an eye
