Bodo/Glimt (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Injuries have affected us. Two important home games coming up.
Got to get a win v Wolves who are improving. Pep needs to adapt. Let's see if he can do that.
Injuries are a factor, but that's no excuse for what we've seen of late. No one on the pitch is doing anything of note other than playing like turkeys.

Im dead serious but it wouldnt surprise me this season if we go out and score a bagfull in the next few games because we are lurching from one end of the spectrum to the other but i dont know why we are that unpredictable.

Donnarumma - can’t be blamed for anything. Couple of saves
Ait-Nouri - played out of position. Not too bad first half, not in it 2nd half
Nico - did his best. Our best player on the night
Alleyne - mistakes lead to goals. Confidence shot to pieces second half
Khusanov - shaky game. Absolutely no confidence to pass the ball forward.
Lewis - poor game. No strength, no pace but did carry on running.
Rodri - still a few yards off the pace and a ridiculous sending off from our captain for the night
Reijnders - a plodder. Doesn’t bust a gut to get back when we’re defending
Foden - really poor game. Confidence has gone. Gave ball away repeatedly. No longer takes the ball on the 1/2 turn. Poor strength and looks a shadow of former self. Needs taking out of first team to clear his head.
Haaland - Poor finishing. Looks fed up with teammates. If he’s supposed to lead the press, he’s not doing it anywhere near aggressive enough.
Cherki - apart from goal didn’t do a great deal. Needs to really step up.
Marmoush - didn’t have time to impact anything.
Pep - another game where we question his team selection. Substitutions should have been made earlier. Insists on our sideways, backwards, pass, pass, pass even when it’s quite obviously not working. Appreciate we’re struggling injury wise but we really need to see some massive improvement.
Come on blues, still a lot to play for but we need to get out of this slump pronto.
CTID
Can't argue with that. I wish we'd tried to play the ball over them and make them turn a bit more

If we compare, say, the 18/19 domestic quadruple season, we’ve gone from:

Ederson to Donnarumma - upgrade

Walker to Nunes - slight downgrade

Stones to Khusanov - downgrade

Kompany to Gvardiol - very, very slight downgrade but questionable

Laporte to Dias - downgrade (IMO)

Otamendi to Guehi - unable to comment

Zinchenko to NOR/Ait Nouri - upgrade, just

Gundo to Reijnders - downgrade

Fernandinho to Rodri - upgrade

David Silva to Bernie - downgrade, but only because of how good Merlin was

Kev to Foden - downgrade

Sterling to Doku - downgrade

Sane to Cherki - similar

Aguero to Haaland - downgrade

Mahrez to Savinho - downgrade

Jesus to Marmoush - upgrade (IMO)

There will obviously be some I’m missing and that aren’t agreed with but it’s a pretty large sample size and shows how much the squad - and more importantly, the depth - has declined.

What makes you think we’ll Galatasary

Their forward line will rip that pitiful defence to shreds

I’ve watched them a few times this season and they don’t look all that. Sane and Gundogen, come on - it’s not 2019 anymore

Also, Turkish teams don’t typically travel well and hopefully Nico and Bernardo and play in central midfield and keep it tight. Also, Haaland I expect won’t start on Saturday so will hopefully be a bit fresher

Well we know how Wolves will be practising to play against the high line that we will have on Saturday.

Guehi is going to be one busy guy - thank fuck we signed him

Is it wrong to say that I honestly think I could have set up the team better than Pep tonight?

The one thing i dont get from tonight's game is why play Haaland Foden Cherki Donnarumma Rodri
Give Trafford a game play some of the kids, that way you can lose and not look daft or embarrassed

Why has the power energy fight gone, its a major puzzle and something does not feel right
When players are coasting and not putting in a shift, something has to be wrong in the background behind closed doors.

I think we are 1 more loss away from uproar from the stands and questions about the players and manager
Because it was an important game and we were already without 9-10 players.

The attitude stunk tonight. I hope they learned that lesson.

I feel sorry for the young blues who played. All of us need to get behind them. The best player was O'Reilly. We needed 10 others.

Guess what? Saturday will come and Pep will still stick with Foden n Haaland AND carry on with this crazy high line. Rinse n repeat every fucking game. I don't want to dig one player out because they were(excet Donna again) fucking abysmal, but if Haaland can't score from a foot from goal when all he needs to do is connect properly then the team is well n truly fucked!
He should have thrown himself at that chance head, foot, thigh had to make contact

Anyone noticed the complete lack of tackling in every area of the pitch from the entire team no matter who plays? No challenges for 50-50s, balls squirming loose to an opposing player with ease, opposition players charging past ours with ease and no sign of a tackle? Fucking atrocious. No one does a fucking thing about it.
We’ve become a very lazy team.
Doesn’t matter what the tactics are or the personnel that’s picked.
If you play that half arsed you’re gonna get beat, even off shit teams, tonight and Saturday being the perfect example of that.
We’re lazy with the ball, no movement, no urgency, no fight.
We’re lazy without the ball, half arsed press, jogging back, no real effort to actually win the ball back.
We’ve no fight and even less pride.

Does anyone genuinely want pep out? I don’t.. however I’m asking to see what people thoughts are..

No I don't. He makes far more good decisions than bad ones, obviously. (His bad ones can be spectacularly bad — Porto! Leverkusen, more recently, although not as serious). Only a week ago, we turned in what I thought was our best performance of the season, at St James's Park.
What I do now feel convinced of, though, is this: if Pep doesn't feel that consistent progress is being made on last season, that the team/squad is not progressing from that and basically renewing itself so that the club will be in a healthy position by the term of his contract, he'll walk of his own accord. I didn't think that for one second last season, even in the darkest period leading up to Christmas. We've recruited quite a few players since then, quite a few have gone (especially if you count Jack and Aké, which I think you have to). Pep will now feel that he's had a significant crack of the whip to renovate and create his third team. If he feels what he's doing is not working, he'll go because he decides to. He'll know by the end of the season, before it in fact. And he'll have the quiet conversation with Khaldoon and the Sheik.

for me...

Phil shouldnt be starting.
Ait nouri at left back.
NOR supporting midfield, or at left back bombing with Doku.
Start Doku.
Lewis shouldnt be starting.
Rodders on the bench unless better support.
play faster, attacking football
Score some goals
beat the opposition

Do I get the job?
As someone else said though with 10 injuries or players not eligible what choice but to play who did.

Quelle surprise. Ten available senior players, a headless-chicken back four protected by a not-fully-fit Rodri, minus temperatures, artificial turf, etc.

But it’s worth remembering this is a very tough away trip: Roma, Celtic, Beşiktaş, Porto, Twente, Olympiacos and Lazio have all lost here. Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and Ajax just about got away with a draw.
