Paid for a new boiler to be fitted
Came to fit it today and was told there wouldn't be enough room to service it and it would invalidate warranty
Going to cost more to relocate or a smaller boiler , am I being scamned , getting it through boxt ?

Utter bollocks. Did anyone come around to assess the area where the new boiler would be, did they recommend what boiler to fit? Why did you pay before it was fitted? If there is enough room to fit there is enough room to service. Personally wouldn't touch BOXT with a barge pole bt I think Worcester Bosch own a stake in the company so might be worth contacting them directly and ask them what the situation is? I would also get a registered gas safe engineer around to advise on what can and can't be done. You should be able to get a full refund from BOXT if you are within your 14 day cooling off period.

They just asked to send some pics, just want it doing , it was dads house , trying to sell it so don't want to be spending much on it

My new boiler went in a space like that.
Not Boxt though.
No issues servicing it.

As others have said it sounds like bull. They should tell you the reason why the warranty is invalid. If it’s just due to the space for an engineer to service it then they shouldn’t have fit it in my opinion as it could prevent an engineer making an emergency fix to it.

However I would be surprised if it is a problem, it’s probably a fitter having a strop over something.

Are they saying they won’t service it, because I’m sure an independent bod would.

I used boxt 8 years ago and the cupboard it’s in is similar to that. Used the same guy from
Bury to service it ever since.

I got my boiler through BOXT. Couldn't fault them or the process at all.

FWIW if you have had a Worcester Bosch boiler fitted, the warranty allows ANY gas registered engineer to service it. As long as you find someone willing and able, you should be fine.

You need to be careful there are cowboys out there - 7 or 8 years ago I decided the back boiler we inherited when we bought the hose had to go for a more efficient combi (energy prices rocketed so whether it is more efficient I'll never know ) however I sought quotes. One guy came out sand said we needed a complete new piping system which would have involved unsightly pipes everywhere. Another said our radiators weren't up to it and we needed new pipes and radiators - I was getting 10 grand quotes ffs. One of them proposed putting the boiler on the wall in the kitchen next to the cooker - I told him to fuck off as it would not meet regs for placement of the boiler and the flue. In the end we went with a local guy who did the boiler - its in the loft not ideal but its the only place that meets the regs ( spoiler I knew this coz everyone in the street who has had one fitted has had to have it there ) minimum replacements cost from memory about £3k and he comes back every year to service it so he stands by his work.

Was it British Gas? They told us that because our flue has been taped at the joints they couldn’t classify the boiler as safe… I offered to remove the tape and the engineer said no, it might cause a leak.. Lazy jobsworth I assumed

A total waste of £90

THey can invalidate a boiler position, if the extract and overflow pipes are in a bad position (regulations) externally.
Otherwise it looks fine, do ya really need to keep those shelves though!

Mine is in the loft with control valves piped down to the kitchen....good jub the fitter was a slim chap lemee tell ya.

They've agreed to relocate the boiler at no extra cost , they're building a false wall where the shelves are.
Apparently you need 600 mm clearance from the front of the boiler to the wall , there is currently only 470mm.
Still needs a bit of extra work though pipe outside that leads into the ground a soak something or other has previously been cut so needs replacing , guys fitting it is doing it as a foreigner , £40 parts £70 labour

I must admit at first glance, it appeared to be a bit tight to work on. Although BOXT have their own gas fitters, they also use contractors. Who in turn, want to be in and out asap. Although they quoted system flush and balancing, that never happened.
I presume when you ordered the boiler, you said it didn't need resiting. I suppose that's why they ask you to take photographs. Thankfully the issue has now been resolved, having a boiler installed can always be a stressful time. Let's hope you don't have any issues with your WiFi connection !!

They will always look for a way out of covering it.
I had appliance cover and when my washing machine broke, they said it wasn't covered because it's not in my kitchen.

Make sure that any work done to the boiler and anything associated with it is carried out by a gas safe registered engineer otherwise it's illegal. You can check on the Gas Safe site if an engineer is registered.

Boiler fitted , god knows how we're supposed to access the fuse box now
