There are numerous charities and support available from the LA and housing options but it's a process.
No one can expect to rack up at the local Town Hall and say give me a house and they say here you go then and handover the keys.

The chances of these 2 buying the winning ticket too! I suggest they have been spending a fortune on lottery tickets using money obtained fraudulently.

It just emphasises how people like these 2 undo a lot of good work and good will from the general public. Stories like this are depressing actually.

I’ve lived in downtown Cleveland long enough that I know all the usual suspects. There’s one guy who has been trying to get together the bus fare to Akron for over 5 years now.
I give money to charities I trust, never to anyone on the street. I know that means I’ve probably ignored genuine cases.

I think most people know that there are homeless people that play tricks and exaggerate their situation to monetise sympathy.

But most people don't tar them all with the same brush.

Hardly a rant was it, or bizarre.
It was against beggars, not homeless people.
Thankfully this Country helps homeless people (takes time but so does everything) whereas giving cash encourages begging!

Expecting people to survive on UC is hardly a workhouse, in fact it is the opposite. 99.9% don't beg, and if they are really in need there is plenty of help and services than can be accessed.

Why abuse someone over an area you know nothing about? No one with any experience in the area would ever give to beggars, and the amount of food they throw away which people give to them is also a nuisance.

My wife is a vicar, so we get knocks on the door.

We never give money. We’ll either go to the shop to put some money on their gas and electric (if run out of money), or give them a kind of food parcel melded to their needs.

I had one guy turn up whilst my wife was out asking for a train fare back to Stoke, having being knocked off his bike. <This ranked as bizarre on my bullshit radar as our house was 5 miles from Piccadilly and he said it happened on Oxford Road>.

A week later, same bloke knocks on and tells my wife that he needs to get back to Macclesfield. He doesn’t know I can see him. He didn’t get the mohey.

We've found that if we tell people to come back in an hour to get their food or we’re busy and can’t go to the shop to top up their gas/electricity that that weeds out the wheat from the chaff.

We had one single bloke that told us his 3 girls had been thrust upon him because their mum had been arrested. He came back an hour later with the three of them after school.

We sorted them out for the week.
