Try revisiting the classics. I've gone back to Victorian Gothic for the first time since I was a kid and am rediscovering some fantastic writing.
The last contemporary work I read was David Peace's The Damned UTD. Great start and realises Cloughy brilliantly (if a touch contrary to the memories of his nearest and dearest), but sags badly about two thirds in. Worth a look though.
