Boooom

I don't think the argument about Pogba was that he wasn't marquee. More that it was looking like the investment in his fee and/or wages would not be cost effective.

If we are after a big name player, from these rumours and suggestions it'll be someone more marketable than Kroos who will be a better value buy than Pogba (which I don't necessarily interpret as cheaper).

There are very few more expensive than he. All of which I'd take. I hate the closed season. Luckily the euros start this week then I'm Bali for three weeks and get back the day before we play Munich so it's more or less starting again.

Why are you thinking that bale will leave astonish wage and chempions league winner's for us mate? With all the respect for pep and our money..

The challenge to do exactly the same but with a different team whilst playing for the best manager in the world.

I think it's the value element more than anything. A top CM that isn't Pogba would probably cost around £30m so Paul has to add additional performance level and marketability to the tune of around £50m. If we assume Neymar can be bought for more or les the same price, he 'only' has to add the value of about £30m over another top attacker, simply because attackers tend to cost more than midfielders.

Its got to be Abameyang, current African footballer of the year and great, if raw, talent. Expect that we'll move for Kroos once Real sort out a deal with Juventus for Pogba. It'll probably be a deal which allows Juventus to keep Morata or they sell their right of buy back which would then allow Juventus to cash in if they wanted. I don't think any of Messi, Neymar, Suarez, Bale etc. will move this window and actually, with the right training, Abameyang could be amazing with Aguero one side and Sterling/Sane the other. I don't think we'll use Aguero down the middle as Pep seems now to prefer a taller, stronger main striker.

Leaves me at a loss for who this crack player could be if Pogba wasn't marquee enough then.

Me too.

I dont give a shit who we sign as long as Pep believes they will improve us as a team because its the team that matters, not some huge name at the end of the day but its difficult to read on here that Pogba isnt big enough and we should think bigger because frankly, that's just bollocks imo.

Reports are that Barca could be in for Nolito which may mean they are willing to sell one of their front three. Still think its doubtful but selling one of those could allow them to buy both Pogba and Nolito.

Depends what we're looking for as a club. If it's 'just' to improve the team so we would stand a better chance of winning the CL, then players like Gundogan are perfect and we just need to improve the first team where necessary. If we're looking to sell shirts, or at least get the fee back via shirt sales, then there's a handful of players that could be. And I'm not sure it's Pogba today, although a decent Euros and he could reach that bracket.

Kaka aside, we've never tried to sign a galactico, for which I'm glad, but the entire Barca business plan was built around that to elevate their commercial side. If we're going £60m+, IMO, it'll be for a shirt seller as much as what they bring to the team, although the two go hand in hand. PSG and Chelsea have spent a lot on players, yet how many kids do you see in their shirts compared to Barca or Real. I suspect something big is coming to move us to the next level off the pitch to go with the success that Pep will bring on it.

Chelsea sell a lot of shirts.

2015/2016 figures apparently:
FC Barcelona 3,637,000
Bayern Munich 3,312,000
Chelsea 3,102,000
Manchester United 2,977,000

I don't get all this I wouldn't have Suarez... he's one of the best players in world football, I understand that people don't like the way he can act but you don't win trophies for being the fairest team in the league.

Sanchez would be a marquee signing. Bale and Griezmann as well.

Sanchez
Zinchenko
Kroos
Gundogan
Hector
Laporte

That would be an amazing summer.

I am not sure that we are that set on signing really big name 'marquee' players with the exception of Messi these days .
In all honesty Robinho and Tevez are the only two we have signed.
Players like Silva Yaya and Aguero though acknowledged to be fine players by many probably gained greater international recognition after coming to CIty.
