Boston (Massachusetts) Blues are on the telly Saturday!

Just saw this on the Fulham pre-match thread:

Apparently City are sending down a load of red and black scarves to commemorate Bernard Halford.

With this and Bernard in mind, I am planning to wear the 2003/04 away shirt tomorrow (it’s the only red and black shirt I have that fits and is a presentable; too many hours on the pitch for the others).

Do you know if anyone else (including MCFC Boston) may be doing something similar as tribute to Bernard?

She should try taking a commuter rail train in to Boston this morning — it’s the closest she’d come to the cattle transport experience.
True dat...
I was on a train from Budapest to Vienna last week. Cost the same as a round trip ticket on the MBTA from Norwood to South Station. No comparison.

I certainly don't have anything red and black.
I have an MCFC Boston scarf I was going to wear.
Maybe if they stick a mic in front of me I can mention Bernard (minus the attendance fiddling)

No matter how bad it is relative to other places in Europe (Spain, Croatia, Hungary, etc.), public transit is substantially better than in the US. And Boston is one of the worst. I think only Los Angeles rivals it in my experience.

Ha, fair enough.

I’ll have my lucky City standard scarf (three league/final wins and counting since I retired the last one).

Godspeed.

Lowell line is as bad, but nothing is worse than the Fitchburg line.

When we first moved to Boston (and the US) a few years ago, the missus managed to secure a residency in Concord (she’s a saint, as she moved for my opportunity and made the best of it), and the centre put us up in a flat rent-free there for a year. That was a great situation financially, of course, but it meant that I would need to take the commuter rail and T to my office on State St every morning for a few months until we bought a car. I was of course accustomed to the trams back home and thought it couldn’t possibly be worse than that, despite warnings to the contrary from a few colleagues already living here. I had greatly underestimated how **** public transport is in Boston. On the very best day it was a cattle car experience for 2 hours of the day (there and back). And those days were infrequent; often the trains were either delayed 30-60 minutes or didn’t come at all. During the autumn and winter so many trains were cancelled so regularly that several of us began our own ad hoc car service (which, with Boston congestion, took as long or longer as the train if we didn’t leave at 6 AM). And that’s not even mentioning the horrors of the Green line at peak hours.

It’s why I never complain about Manchester public transport now — as much as it does need improving, it is infinitely better than this rubbish.

If I lived that side I would offer to give you lift. As it is, I will be waiting for a mate who is coming from Burlington before setting off around 7 AM; we have to leave immediately after the game, unfortunately, as the missus has a gallery opening tomorrow afternoon in Providence.

Ha ha I feel your pain! In fact the state of our transit is why I can't be down there tomorrow. I have to be out for something close to Worcester for my work toward the middle of the day and am not chancing being able to get downtown and back prior to.

Still love the city and area though! I tend to stay out along the 495 mostly anymore. Do intend to get to the Banshee at some point. Hopefully a dead rubber league match subsequent to the dippers being eliminated because the stress of getting to/fro Dorchester + the intrinsic stress of the run-in would be too much for me.

I know what you mean — I am hoping tomorrow is a fairly straightforward affair. :-)

And hopefully you’ll be able to come down soon.

I take the commuter rail (Providence line) to work, but the weekend trains aren't early enough. Looks like I'll be driving and parking if I want to get there on time tomorrow. Was just in Manchester two weeks ago, and I love the train system over there but I guess maybe it only looks good compared to the MBTA. Imagine actually being able to take a train directly between the airport and the center of the city, what a concept!!! I also love hopping on the train at Piccadilly and heading to Edale and the Peak District . . . walk 10 minutes to the trails and pass two pubs along the way. Cheers!

Kansas City. Unfortunately it's filled with loads of fans from the usual suspects so there are very few City fans here. Could always crash the Champions League games with KC Spurs though :)

Good city. I saw us play a summer friendly there about 4 years ago (Iheanacho's debut IIRC). Enjoyed my time there!

Here we are at the venue.
Over 100 fans from all clubs.
Shawn Wriight Phillios held the PL Trophy and us Blues walked behind him and into the venue.
As we came to the end some wanker of a Liverpool fan jumped in and stuck a LFC cap on the trophy and was dragged off by camera crew and a Blue. What a twat.
