More arguments with Arsenal fans today...one was even so depressed said he might stop watching the Premier League...all complaining about City and Chelsea, how they don't respect what we stand for etc, etc.

The last time Arsenal won the Premiership did they not spend? I understand their youth movement the past 6 years or so and I respect that, but what has it actually won them? To suggest that champions do not spend is a bit far fetched in my opinion, the only modern-day exception I can think of at the highest level is Barcelona, who brought quite a few through their own ranks, but even they spend money.

How can I shut these moaners up? I've even been arguing for FFP and they still moan and moan, worse than talking with a 10 year-old!

All of a sudden they're not winning things and getting battered instead of battering sides like they used to they're going to stop going wot a bunch of tossers.

When they wont spend money on Cahill or a decent keeper and have not scouted players to replace Fabregas or Nasri then they deserva all they get. When team discpline is so poor they get players sent off in each of their 3 opening games then they deserve all they get

The problem is not City or Chelski

The problem is Arsenals transfer policy - selling players for as much as they can and shopping at the bargain basement when they can shop anywhere they want - they have 60 Million plus in the bank and with that they can buy 3 top draw players - instead they offer 6 million for Cahill - wankers nothing more

Barcelona have the highest wage bill in the world and the reason being is that the best team in the world has the best players in the world and demand the best wages

blaming City or Chelski for this is utter bollox

There's been a few on phone in programmes and such crying about how it's not fair that teams can spend more than them. Do they feel like they are cheating when they beat teams like Wigan who can't spend as much as they do? I doubt it. They have quite a large element of Rag like spoiled glory hunters who can't take defeat.

Embarrassing!

Plus the fact that they, along with Spuds, have a wage structure in place which is ancient, hence their problem at not being able to attract top players.

Not really. They bought Lehmann, Clichy, Reyes and van Persie for less than £20m.

But football has changed; you need to spend big now to succeed. Wenger hasn't seen this, making Arsenal being trophiless for 6 years

Reyes alone cost £20m and Van Persie was £2.75m.

In response to the OP, there's a wonderful graph posted somewhere on bluemoon which shows the correlation between spending and finishing position in the league and it clearly shows that you have to spend money to do well.

Clubs have been "buying the league" for years and when we do win the league, be it this year, next year or the year after, we'll be told over and over again that we've "bought it", but I for one won't care, because we'll have just won the league! Would I prefer to do it with 11 Manchester lads who all came through the academy? Yes. Will it ever happen? No.

Money doesn't guarantee success but it gives you a much better chance of achieving it.

i think they do - but we do know that they were prepared to break that strucutre for Nasri so i see it being more flexable in the future - they need a centre back Cahill / Jagielka but seem to be pissing around haggling over price - the need to spend and either of these players wont breal the wage structure

He buys tippy / tappy footballers - mostly French who phsically cant do it - there are plwenty of players out these that could do a decent job and fall into the Arsenal structure - granted they wont be Aguero but Parker - Cahil - Jagielka - Mata (wainted too long and the price went up)

Agree with what u are saying but i believe that the biggest problem is Wenger / Le Arse trying ot get things for fuck all or on the cheap

Liverpool have a similar wage strucutre suarez is rumoured to be 60K

Arsenal finished 5th in the second division and illegally/corruptly bought promotion and their place in the first division. They then went around buying all the first divisions best players and poached the top team of the time's top manager from Huddersfield. They went on to dominate the follwoing decade and were never thrown out of the league.

Arsenal Football Club deserve every bad thing that happens to them because they are nothing but a dirty and corrupt organisation. They are the biggest disgrace that's ever happened in football.

Was at a family christening yesterday and watched the games with my 2 rag brothers, they went on and on about us trying to buy the title. I just smiled and said, deal with it! because i don`t think they can.

That 10 year old will probably be playing for them next month!

I have a degree of sympathy of fans from clubs like Everton (Not popular here I know) when they complain about buying success.

I have none whatsoever for Utd 'Pool and Arsenal who created the champions league cartel to try and guarantee them recurrent exposure and income and thus guarantee their success at the expense of clubs who cannot break the cartel which as has been shown by ourselves and Chelsea can realisticaly only be done with serious money.

Reyes cost £10.5m with £7m being potentially added on for appearances, van Persie cost £3m.

Dont waste your sympathy, Neverton were one of the clubs iirc that were leading the push for the FAPL breaking away from the football league so they could keep more of the TV money.

Absolutely spot on.

This ^^
Spending 500m+ on players is what it takes to challenge for the league title now. Chelsea and MCFC are only the end result of UEFA's idea.

I would tell them that a generation ago football was run along much more equitable lines.

Sure some clubs were richer than others, but the TV money was spread throughout the game.

About 25 years ago a number of clubs decided that this wasn't suiting them. They wanted a bigger slice of the cake. Arsenal were one of these clubs.

And from that point AFC supported and drove a number of initiatives that were designed with one aim in mind - to enrich Arsenal Football Club and fuck the rest of football:

The Premier League
The G14
The Champions League

They have created this monster. It was all too inevitable that external factors would come into play if football grew - that is the nature of human affairs.

I am, personally, ambivalent about football today. I think the standard of stadiums and football on offer is much higher than it was previously and I think we all take for granted just how lucky we are to be able to watch our club on TV so much. But there's little doubt that it is prohibitively expensive to watch football these days - especially at Arsenal btw.

All these developments have been as a consequence of Arsenal's conscious decision to feather its own nest. The fact that I've not seen one Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs fan acknowledge this says everything about their priorities being more about their personal sense of loss, rather than any wider concern for the game.

People should not get so upset.

We obviously cannot be buying any success because everyone, including the experts, were ramming it down our throats that you cannot buy success. It must be something else then.

It is quite obvious then that what we have done is beyond the understanding of all us humble supporters. I can only assume that the manager and club officials therefore must know what they are doing unlike all those at other clubs who's supporters and managers continuously whinge on and on about our improvement.

I hope they continue to look at all our dealings and try to pick fault in everything we do. Whilst they are doing that they are not looking after their own business.
