Bournemouth (A) - FA Cup | Post Match Thread

He could and should have had a couple of goals in that cameo, gets himself into great shooting opportunities then wants to pass , has to be a confidence issue.
Perhaps he should spend a lot of time with Omar - his first instinct is to have a pot shot himself.

Atwell is, was and always will be a useless twst. Got the penalty right but allowed Bournemouth tons of little fouls that were never punished. Took him way too long to book any of them. Also missed the foul on Haaland that injured him.

On Haaland, wasn’t at his best but at least he scored. I’m convinced that whenever that the longer he takes over a penalty the greater the chance he misses it. Hopefully he won’t be out long and the boot is precautionary.
9/10 pens are low
Then it's 50/50 which way he goes and the keeper dives
Keeper guesses correctly and Haaland doesn't connect properly = save

We deserved that.
Although first half wasn't great, it wasn't nearly as bad as some were making it out to be
Bournemouth played with huge intensity, the referee was allowing them a lot of very marginal challenges and we only conceded one goal through a single piece of stupidity rather than a bad team goal.

We could have had several goals ourself.

2nd half we took command and could have had a few more.

The old guard were a lot better than they have been.
We're not close to our best of the previous seasons but we're not the disjointed mess that we were in the late Autumn and winter.
Come on now, we're a disjointed rabble with no recognisable pattern of play and Pep will walk in the summer.
A club in crisis is what we are.. ..

Another FA Cup Semi-Final - what a record! This looked for a fair while like the moment our FA Cup run would come to an end. As others have said - the first half performance wasn't too bad - 4 good chances and a goal behind from Bournemouth's only real chance. But in the context of this season that looked like we might struggle to get back into it. Bournemouth looked like they had more energy and fight, the chances we had were a result of the chaos Bournemouth's style had created rather than anything we were doing and whilst that gave me hope that something might come along in the second half - it could just as equally result in another Bournemouth goal.

What a difference in the second half - It was difficult to see on the television just how the substitution and the tactical tweak made a difference - but suddenly we had control and O'Reilly had far more space down the left hand side than Gvardiol had been able to find and used it so well. You shouldn't give Haaland four chances and expect him not to score any. Once the second was scored we had control and whilst a third would have been nice just in case - in truth Bournemouth didn't have any answers or any energy left.

A really decent performance in all, from about 22 mins on. The opening 9 minutes were really nervy and full of errors, including Ederson mis-kicks, misplaced short passing etc. By my reckoning we didnt complete a pass in their half until about the 9th minute. Then an out-of-the-blue penalty to settle us that we fluffed and giving it away for a Bournemouth goal in the 21st - it really was shaping up to be a long afternoon.

But we hit back straight away with a one on one, and generally finished the half quite well. I thought the 2nd was a great 45, full of control coupled with pacey threat, and chances galore. I dont think we looked too much like conceding the whole half.

Hope Haaland's injury is minor. Well done O'Reilly, played Gundo and Kev, Marmoush looked a handful.

One of those games where all that matters is the result and we'll have forgotten everything about the match by this time next week.

Whatever boot the manager put up their collective arses at half time clearly worked. Night and day performance.

So while the first half was as worrying as any dross I've seen this season, the fact the second half was such a massive improvement suggests they are actually still listening to Guardiola, which is encouraging for our medium term future.

Can still go down as a decent season if we lift the cup. Win that case, and it'll be seismic.

Hopefully it's precautionary with The Viking.

I thought Kovacic took control of the game after half time with his control and distribution.Gave a feeling of calm that settled everybody on and off the field.

Is it tomorrow yet?
Tomorrow is always tomorrow..... as I said in my original mail.

Unfortunately, the hysterical and emotionally unstable who infest this forum* had neither the wit nor wisdom to recognise an immutable fact....tomorrow is always tomorrow.

The fabulous, uncontrolled reaction and pile on has made me an unwilling anti hero and boosted the thread count (and Ric's riches ?) beyond the previous post average.

9000 of the posts are repetitively inane and add nothing to the thread.

Tomorrow always comes.

Tomorrow !!

Probably already been said on here but WHAT AMAZING SUPPORT TODAY. A long trip to watch what many on here describe as a “shit” team ……..
the real supporters were there. Loud and PROUD not criticising every player & every move.

Well done guys. See you at Wembley
There are the match going supporters who understand football, then there are the internet supporters who are mainly clueless

For the first time in so long that I can't remember, we were stronger in the second half. What a treat!

For once, looks like Pep did his job in the changing room. Let's hope a corner has been turned...

Erl had a highlights nightmare, but still - as always - continued to show and the goal was not a 'gimme' as the commentators were insisting. It was actually a flashback to how we were using him in his first half-season, before the world cup - with Nico O playing the KDB role.

Yes, it should have been done and dusted by half time, but how brilliant to see us competitive until the end of a match.

After this season, definitely a victory to savour. Just hope Erling's ok and Phil can join in again asap

I also think a few senior players put the boot into Pep and co at half time, everyone came out fired up, none more than the bench.

The benches reaction when KDB was chasing down their keeper late in the game showed passion that we have not seen for sometime, it was great to see and hopefully a good sign for the rest of the season.
