Bournemouth (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

You are probably right about the last 20 minutes ,but still you have to say that pressing isnt the same it used to be and thats probably one of the reasons city aren´t controlling the games and possesion as well as they used to. Probably just my thing that you feel much comfortable of holding the lead ,when you have the ball than the other way around :) no Rodri/ferna , David and Kevin in midfield anymore ,might be something to do with that.
Fernandinho, and Rodri are elite players. Our physicality is much better than last season but there were times against Bournemouth where they enjoyed periods of possession.

That sounds horrendous mate. Hope they’re both ok and someone got the number plate.
Hi Cheers… we helped both back up their feet… they were on our train back to Glossop… they got off at newton for Hyde… hopefully they are both ok… the older guy was quite shaken, as you would be… just couldn’t believe the taxi just sped off… sadly none of us got plate

Just watching the first half, which I was not able to watch yesterday. This was, hands down, the best football we've played this season. I think overall, apart from a sloppy ten to fifteen minutes at the start of the second half, it was the best we've done. Fascinated by the quickness and crispness of the passing.
I cannot help looking back to last November, one year ago. We're a long, long way from that weird, sleepwalking period up to Christmas.

Edit: just seen the Bournemouth “goal”. Fuck me, but how can that not be a foul on Donna?? Just incredible.

Noticed something bit odd towards the end of the game. When Erling was being subbed Phil was chatting with Alti nearby, then they shook hands. Phil wasn't going off the pitch at that point, no idea what it could have been about?

I saw that too and wondered what the hell. Phil was kicked all game and got very little protection.

I really enjoyed the game..credit to Bournemouth for coming and having a go..it's such a refreshing change to see someone who has the belief that they can go toe to toe with us.
Some excellent performances from our players..Nunes, Nico G, Phil, Cherki, big Earl and Nico O.
The others were good to very good
I can understand the twat from Alty not seeing the Bournemouth player holding on to big Dons arm at the corner but how the fuck does VAR not call it out..
To me it proves VAR is just fucking pointless and needs binning off asap.
The VAR is mostly used to back up the on field ref not to get the right decision. If Taylor had blown for a foul the VAR would have gone with the decision. For me video refereeing is killing the excitement in sport apart from in cricket.

At the risk of sounding incredibly patronising, how refreshing to see an opponent attack City from the first minute, and not resort to the Jordan Pickford School of timewasting.

An entertaining game, but we still need Rodri to stop some of those transitions at source.

Typical that everyone remembers Savinho losing the ball when City were in a promising position, but not the two times when he beat the full back and crossed for Marmoush and Reijnders to shoot at goal.
Frustrating as fuck, but let's all use both eyes.
Most people had gone by the time Savinho set up those two chances. They are both on the match replay, on the City website for those who missed them.

Pressing high up the pitch is high risk and leaves us vulnerable to the counter attack. Generally teams are much better at playing through it now as well. If you could design the perfect scenario for Haaland it would be with the opposition higher up the pitch and space in behind for him to be played into. So you stay compact and withdraw into your half and let them keep the ball, before then looking to win it back and playing them at their own game. It's been a change in approach but it's smart because it works to our advantage generally. We just need to get better at defending in that compact shape.

Best we’ve played for time.

Bournemouth have been really good so far and are a really good side, so a great time to turn up properly.

Huge test against the biggest cunts in football next weekend. Let’s see where we really are atm.
After a rewatch, i disagree with those who think this was our best game this season.

It was our best win against a tough opponent. But we were quite sloppy.

Donna's mis-punch on their equalizer. Cherki giving the ball away leading to the disallowed goal. And similar 2 other times in a dangerous area. Nico doing similar 2ice. Nunes running across field and passing directly to a Bournemouth player. Phil almost losing it 2ice and Doku the same.

We had many errors. And contrary to my original viewing, we really didn't do a good job containing them defensively. They just made many basic mistakes that stopped them from getting better chances. And Their star player really should have gone at us more. I don't know why he was often reserved. Coz anytime he did go at us he often had his way as he was a handful.

Nunes did a decent job, but the man breezed past many a defender the few times he put his head down.

Overall, a fantastic win. And an improved play style going forward. But we were bothered by their press and often couldn't get a hold of the game. It qas like watching us play an equal.

It was q bot strange. Credit to Bournemouth. They really came to play. The return leg would be a banger if they are still in form and haven't lost key players to injury.
