How much of a musical icon is he? If he'd died in 1990, he'd be more famous than Dylan. Came across this, what do you think?

he is probably the biggest proof that genius has a time limit to it, was a true original for about 15 years and since then has been average, sometimes an early death stops people from becoming average

Yeah, pretty everything up to and including the Scary Monsters album was brilliant.
All downhill from there though.

bowie is one of my all time favourites. low is probably his greatest album

in the top 5 of the 70's in my opinion

i went to watch him a few years ago at the men and he was immense

he is the only artist i can think of of that era that actually improved in the 80's too, even at the height of hedonism he was churning out classics

a legend.

Dn't post very often but this is a subject that is very close to my heart, growing up in the 70's and having an older brother who was a bit of a Bowie nut i was always hearing the start to 5 years wafting from his bedroom.
Fortunatley when he went to University he left his album collection at home so gave me the perfect oppurtunity to get to know a bit more of Bowies music.
That was it for me to me, Bowie, with all his reinvention and changes in musical direction in the 70's became my idol.
You cannot beat Moonage Daydream live at the Philadelphia tower for an example of Bowie in his mid 70's pomp, not found it on youtube apart from one with the guitar solo missing, if anyone can find it and post it thanks

Got to agree with this.

It's why i originally said that if he'd died in 1990, he would be massive now.

He should have retired before the lets dance/ modern love pop music era.

That said, Bowie music in general remains premier level stuff.
