Been reading 'Teenage kicks' the class of 86 book (excellent read so far)
anyway I've just read past the promotion game of 89 v Bradford and it mentions the bloke who ran on the pitch who tells the players that palace were 5 up against brum

Does anyone know the pitch invader?
Does he still go to the match?
Is it you and do you post on here?

here is the game in case you need to job memory
cheers

I had forgotten how shit we were....

Do what I do and a few you tube nights watching old city makes you appreciate what we've got now and stops you getting complacent

Great viewing, oh the memories...even though I wasn't there. Was hoping we were going to seal our promotion at home to Bournemouth the week before so had instead got tickets for the FA Trophy to watch Macc Town.

I like doing that too, not just for that reason but also just general nostalgia

Re: Bradford 1989

I remember listening to this live on the radio (no Sky in them days) and nearly hitting the ceiling when we scored... Then waiting impatiently all evening for the highlights on Match Of The Day.

Yes it is a good book, so I've have been told ;)
In Lakey's book he describes the incident - he didn't know him, just some random fan. I've searched for footage on youtube but it doesn't show him. Does the 1988/89 official video show him at all?

Re: Bradford 1989

He had long hair and was serenaded with "where's your caravan?" From the bradford kop where I was stood.

I even seem to remember he was known as The Bradford Gypsy for a while, although that might have just been my mates. These are distant memories but I think one of my mates knew him and I think he used to go everywhere watching city on a motorbike. Although the last memory might just be someone completely different.

I felt sick listening to the radio commentary that day.
We couldn't get to this one for one reason and another so we went to Oldham and listened to it live stood in the Chaddy end. When we scored we celebrated then remembered where we were. Thankfully the ground was full of blues jumping up and down to the amazement of baffled Oldhamers. Another memorable blue moment and made up for the ridiculous match the week before.

Re: Bradford 1989

The Bournemouth game.

My biggest memory of that day is the huge beach ball that was going round the crowd at 3-0 and everybody cheering as it bounced along.. when they scored their first goal I think a few blues even cheered ironically. There was no cheering at the end though. Gutted!

We were very lucky that day actually as if my memory serves me right Leicester got a last minute equaliser against Palace, meaning we only needed a point at Bradford. (why do I remember stuff like this? I'm sure there must be better stuff worth remembering! :))

Re: Bradford 1989

I was amongst the couple of hundred that celebrated in Albert Square throughout the evening (the police stood patiently watching until just before 2am when the clubs were to close and then they moved us on!)
Anyway, during the night the long haired bloke turns up to be greeted with cheers and the chant "we love you Jesus, we do etc" and was carried around the Square on peoples shoulders.

Re: Bradford 1989

was at the game and I remember 5 of us went over in the car and they were stopping people at the end of the motorway and not letting u through if u never had tickets, then after the game that night everyone was in albert sq partying as thought we had just won champs league final, they were the days

Re: Bradford 1989

remember the day well got there on my own at about 9.30 without ticket, checked around the ground decided there end was easiest to get in climbed over the wall/fence hid in toilets until 2 other blues joined me at about 11.30 unfortunatly stewards had seen them and sent a possie in to get them out, we were all hid in one toilet stood on bog when the door gets kicked in and we get dragged out, thankfully not arrested just thrown out, as others have said there was a massive police cordon around the ground which i was inside off, managed to get a ticket off a bradford fan for the same end, there where 100s in there we were in bottom corner, good day was had by all in the end.

We only needed a point at Bradford whatever the Palace result. For Palace to go up we had to lose and they had to win and beat our goal difference which was five better than theirs.
