Found out at my little girls 24 week checkup scan on tues that she could potentially have a brain cyst and that we have to go to St Marys specialist scan unit on Monday for a detailed check up. Possibly heart problems too.

Has anyone been in the same situation with thier babies on the way and it's turned out ok? Not been able to get much sleep since tues for worrying and the missus is taking it even worse than me. Had a look on the internet and it's all doom and gloom.

The actual name of the cyst is too long for me to remember but the terminologies used were along the lines of 'posterior fossa' and 'p-something cyst'. Are these common in foetuses?

I have absolutely no clue about cysts m8 but accept my good wishes and I really hope everything isn't as bad as it sounds initially.

Sometimes googling the shit out of something can make it worse unless you have all the facts, wait for the scan results and the specialists opinion.

This. Try not to make your worries worse mate, Internet research on health issues are very rarely fruitful or assuring.

Best of wishes to you, and hope that it all turns out fine.

Feel for you pal, not the same, but when the Mrs was pregnant, they found a shadow on the baby's lungs and we had to do all sorts of tests, including an amniocentises, which can cause mis carriage and involved sticking a big needle into the fetal fluid to take samples, it was truely horrible at the time, but gladly, we had a beautiful healthy little girl. I hope everything works out for you both and keep your chin up and all the best.

Re: Brain cysts in foetuses

20 years ago my baby daughter had a brain tumour.
After surgery here we were told that nothing more could be done and to take her home and "make her comfortable" for the time left.

I was a wreck but my Mrs, god bless her, was like a dog with a bone and all over the internet like a rash.

As a consequence we were able to get surgery elsewhere.

In 3 months my baby daughter takes her finals for a degree. She's 21 next week.

OP information is power. Find out as much as you possibly can. Whenever you see a consultant take a notebook and write down everything they say. When you see them you are usually too numb to reflect on their words. Writing it all down helps you reflect and dissect what they say.
Be prepared to ask the uncomfortable questions directly. Many medics have a policy of presuming you don't want to know, even if its bad news, even though most of the time you just don't know the questions to ask.

All the very best.
However things pan out you owe it to all involved to have done everything you possibly could have. That way you'll sleep at night.

Good luck to you. I hope everything has a good outcome.
