Bramall Lane

I was looking at some pictures of Bramall Lane before it was turned into a sole football ground yesterday and was wondering, did anyone go when they where still using it for Cricket and what was it like watching a game with that type of set up?? I seem to recall(although I never saw a game there)that Darlington at one time had Durham playing there, so I guess was similar..

Following the loss of cricket at Bramall Lane the last ground to host both Football league and County Championship matches was the County Ground at Northampton. Originally a cricket ground, Northampton Town were residents of the County Ground from their formation in 1897. The football pitch had the reputation of having the worst playing surface in the League which was largely the result of the pitch being used as a spectator area/car park/picnic area during the cricket season. The Cobblers played their last match there on Tuesday October 11th 1994, a 0-1 Division 3 defeat by Mansfield. Four days later they drew 1-1 with Barnet in their first match at the Sixfields Stadium.

Thats right I want past it on a train one day, it wasn't too far from the station.

First time I went Bramhall lane it was like this . I was in the City end , behind the goals , and to the right of me there was nothing but grass ! Really strange atmosphere ( ie crap ) with no noise from all along one side . Also there was a couple of ball boys , with spare balls to keep the game going if it got hoofed down the open side .

Good job for the ball boys it wasn't when Dave Bassett was in-charge, they would have needed overtime pay and about 30 extra balls!

me and my dad went i8n the late 60's, our seats were facing the cricket pitch, we had to crick our neck to watch the game to side of us.i think we won 3-0 with mike doyle scoring at least one.
