just watching brazil v spain, why are a lot of brazilians almost european looking with blonde hair etc while a lot of others are darker skinned

That's a damn good question and one that will probably still be unanswered by the time that Spain lose!

a lot of people with european ( spanish / pportugeese/ english) descent live their. The " indigenous" population there was all tribes origanlly but when spain and other countries started to invade then the demographics of the population changed and now most brazillians have roots in other places

its the same in most south amrican countries argentia being a prime example

Mostly Africans in the north and then Europeans in the South. Mix that with the indiginous population and you have quite a mix.

Another question, do all the ethnic groups get along and is there parity or is it a bit like South Africa?

There doesn't appear to many of the African descendant ones at the match tonight for some reason.

Good Question

They're all treated the same, and get on well together.

I watched a documentary on Brazil a while back and they have something like 127 official names for different skin tones.

Quite a lot of Germanic settlers in the south (not the Nazi-kind).
very true about the german connection, but a large influx of germans arrived post world war two and they most definitely were of the Nazi kind. Hard to be found and prosecuted

Here as well. Klaus Barbie lived just down the road.

Brazil has one of the most diverse populations on the planet there are millions of descendants of Germans, Italians, Portuguese, Japanese and Africans hence why the diversity in complexions you see and question.

Add to that the native Brazilians who have a more American Indian appearance you have a melting pot of races.

Germans - Blue eyes blonde hair.
Africans - Dark skin brown eyes.

There are about 200 million of them and almost half the population is mixed with something too hence your Neymars, Robinhos, Marcelos. They are all African blood with either European or native blood.

What I have never seen anywhere else is you have dark African looking people with blue, green eyes and straight hair something that occured due to the mixing of the natives with the slaves (Africans). Stunning people and beautiful country if it were not for the poverty and division of wealth it would be the best place to live on Earth.

Beautiful place and beautiful people. Shame about the big divide in rich and poor over there.
