Another question, do all the ethnic groups get along and is there parity or is it a bit like South Africa?
No it is not like South Africa there is a division of wealth and the white Brazilians are wealthier but that is due to the fact most black Brazilians are descendants of slaves. There are some wealthy non footballers though who are black. However Brazil's problems are more about class you will find black, white, mixed, Asian (Japanese decent) in the flavelas. They will all be of equal standing. The racism there is more class based.
Brazil is also a very superficial place they take more effort in looking good and partying then they do into succeeding and business. So if you are hard working and keep your head down you can make it. They are frustratingly laid back though so if you are used to the way things are done here you will be bashing your head against the wall over there.
Racism is there but classism is way more serious.
Flavela dwellers.
