Breaking Bad

I realise I'm in a minority but I'm not that big a fan of it. I got the box set a while back and have yet to watch season six though.

There were a few reasons. I thought it tried too hard in places to be cool and intellectual (the Kafka episode in particular). I didn't believe the development of the characters (Walter I think could have been far more interesting if he retained a bit more good than he did, I didn't find it a believable character story in the slightest). I'm not sure if the subject matter was slightly different, it would get the plaudits that it does. Jesse as a meth addict?! Bubbles in the Wire, now there's a meth addict. Jesse looks like he used to be in Saved By The Bell.

The biggest thing is the characters though, I don't like any of them! Good or bad, there needs to be some redeeming or interesting feature to keep me hooked. I just found them all....irritating!

I find it interesting that when discussing such things, people need to compare and sort things into favourites or rank them. Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Sopranos, Narcos, they are all great watches in their own right.

I thought the development of Hank and Betsy was interesting, certainly Hank who went from typical 'jock' who was a dick to having much more depth through the series, while Walt went the other way.

I know what you mean about Jessie, and his pearly white teeth. I like the scene in the Wire when Bubbles is telling Sydnor that he isnt street enough, telling him where he was going wrong. From Wiki: While filming, the actor Andre Royo was once approached by a Baltimore resident, who handed him a package of heroin and said he looked like he needed a fix. Royo calls this his "street Oscar"

Yep, thinking about it I do agree about Hank, he probably was the most interesting character.

I will give series 6 a go. I've just finished watching Boardwalk Empire so need something to move on to. Has anyone seen Justified? That got recommended to me the other day, but never heard of it.
