Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

should’ve had a 2nd while we were on top, they were always going to throw the proverbial kitchen sink at us 2nd half.
Lacked the pace & incision of Doku down the left, but a win is a win.

We can criticise the second half performance, but I would labour the fact that having played Brighton away, Arsenal away, United and Spurs in the first 7 games... only being 3 points off top is a position I would have taken at the start of the season.

Since Donnarumma arrived...
7 games unbeaten in all competitions
And we've conceded 4 goals in those 7 games (and one was a bullshit penalty)

Despite all the hysterical bleating about our "defensive frailty", since August we've got literally the best defensive record in the Premier League.

We are a different prospect to last season, and although we're a way off knowing if we can go for a title run again, I think we've made as good a start as any City team would in recent years given the fixtures we've played. The test is if we can play consistently at this level all season. If we do ,then we'll be there or thereabouts.

Excellent result against a Brentford team who play like Wimbledon and rely on long balls and throw ins to threaten. First half was very good and we really should have had more than 1 goal for our dominance. Whilst the second half was not great, apart from a Josko brainfart, Donnarumma was hardly troubled.

Only downside was the Rodri injury, but we are going into the international break looking up and we should have most of our injured players back for the Everton game.

Compared to the treble winners a performance that was distinctly average.

But a team in transition with the Balon D Or winner taken off after 20 mins away against the new Stoke City

Grounds for optimism perhaps

A win is a win is a win. So happy with three points, but there’s not a hope in hell we are able to challenge for the title. I know you to have to sometimes grind out a win , but there’s definitely something missing from this team. Sadly, it’s not Savinho. I hope to never see him in a City shirt again, he’s is totally wank. How the fuck was he not substituted, and what does that say about our manager?

Great defending against the set piece specialists. Even Pulis/Big Sam would think twice about playing like that. Donna only had to make one big save.
Yeah I didn't get a sense of us 'just clinging on' like others apparently did. Thought we defended very well
