Brentford (A) - Post-Match Thread

Having an argument with a Brentford fan on Facebook .......... a loon mocking your support ........ got embarrassed when I pointed out they averaged 6/7k about 7 years ago ........ amazing how these plastics ain’t got a clue when you point out facts to them

They were singing "where were you when you were shit" last night with no sense of irony!

A few were rocking the red and white of Lancashire clubs. A bit like Gillingham in 1999 when quite a few had Inter tops for there only match.
Get on my nerves it does they’ve gained 10k plastics and now there height and mighty :)

Agreed they didnt but 1 is never enough to sit back on and manage after 16 minutes. Its football and anything can happen. It was cruicial we got the 3 pts. Just felt the intensity to to seal it wasnt really there, which left it a high risk strategy. Thankfully we got away with it.
And yet it was enough to sit back on and manage, because we did.

High risk?
They needed a passport to get near our goal
And so what if we conceded (which we did not)
We would have still been 6clear
Like you say anything can happen
Like breaking almost every British record going
Oh BTW think all our title contenders might have to play each other
It was definately high risk. Easy to think otherwise now its over but during the 90minutes there was no certainty with a single goal thats the only point I was trying to make. Chuffed as u it paid off this time.

Yes but easy to say after the event cos we won. Had Brentford scored which was always a possibility, you would not have said that. You would have said we should have got the 2nd and then game managed. High risk in my book.

Just give up.

Nothing happened, we have won 10 in a row so the players are probably experts in winning

Fucking hell there are some whining moaners in that Matchday thread. Jesus Christ, you'd think they'd battered us. They didn't have a shot on target in that entire second half. We completely stifled them without getting out of 1st gear three days after a crazy 6-3 game. We're 8 points clear. Just learn to enjoy it a bit. What was the point in going through the 80s, 90s and 00s if we're going to treat a 1-0 away win (to put a massive gap between us and 2nd place) like it's a 2-0 defeat? Even if Brentford had come back at us (they were never going to) we'd still be two games ahead of our nearest challengers.

There was one little **** in their end just near our end who kept holding up a picture of the CL trophy on his phone at us.

You know it is funny you say that. I just heard Sky Sports say that no team with with a 6+ lead at Christmas had ever lost the league. No, but a team with a 8 point lead with 6 games remaining did! Funny that they didn’t mention that?
The RDAHMeedya will scrape any barrel to come up with some useless, fallaciously-based stat that they hope would set a trend for Rags or Dippers making a charge.

Good article on the back of the slow tempo we played v Brentford and how it was all by design:

Great article and shows up how poor/biased the media in the UK are in general

As for having 10k plastics at Brentford, I really don't think that is the case. Probably more like 4k new premier league Brentford.
But when you have fought for a sustainable future for our club for 20yrs, rattled buckets at every home game, done countless other fundraising stuff, been 1 of 4 fans who made history and formed a political party to fight an unsupportive Council and then field 14 candidates across the Borough with one elected in Brentford - I got a massive 265 votes, to have mental celebrations when we found the attendance was 200 above forecast and to find a new stadium site in our town in West London,
the fact that we have any new fans after being a bit of snidey joke by the big clubs is not something I can really worry about.
TBF I think the proper Brentford loyals are a pretty decent bunch, who know what we are and where we could quickly be back to.
The only thing with new Brentford fans is you think where were you when we were struggling to survive when we really needed you.

It was not high risk. City slowed the game down and kept possession of the ball and the result was that Brentford did not have a shot on target after the 15th minute. They gave City nowhere near the trouble they gave Liverpool or Chelsea. It was a relatively comfortable win, the only risk being that Brentford MIGHT get a set piece from which they could profit - but in fact they didn't. We did hit the post and have a goal disallowed for no obvious reason!

Grealish and Jesus took a lot of stick for their performances but I'm sure Pep was delighted with them. Second half they were clearly instructed to sit wide and not give the ball away in order to negate Brentford's wing backs. As he knew the 3 centre backs weren't the sort to stride into the midfield and start creating essentially 2 players were closing down 5. This left the other 8 City outfield players to deal with the other 5 Brentford players - game over.

Great effort mate. Lots of Clubs are sneered at by so called fans of the elites. Hence, “the West Ham are Massive” and our “Empty Seats at Home” songs are probably aimed at taking the wind out of their sales.

It was good to hear Brentford get plenty of vocal support the other night. All football fans have got the right to the loss out of each other IMHO, even if the banter isn’t very original.

Tommy Franks could have been scripted by Talkshite in his post match interview but that’s the way it is. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Hoping not to sound patronising but it is always great when a smaller club reaches the Premier League for the first time and it is the long term fans of those clubs that I am most happy for.

In West London it would be so easy to be a Chelsea (or even Fulham) fan but supporting Brentford takes character and I also would not sneer at the new fans who have only turned up this season - hopefully some will stick around for the long haul.

The Premier League may (sometimes rightly) be derided for being too rich but the fact that teams like Barnsley, Blackpool, Brentford, Huddersfield, Oldham, Swindon etc. have managed to reach it is fantastic as it gives hope for almost every league team that one day they could one day play in it.

Burnley would have to be the poster boys for this type of team in how they have managed to stay up for quite a few seasons even if the football they play might not be the most pleasing to the eye.

Good luck to Brentford for the rest of the season - the irony metre will be off the scale if they stay up and Newcastle are relegated.

Or lose ugly, as the case may be.
