Brentford (H) | EFL Cup | Post Match Thread

Some great intricate passing yesterday.

Most impressive was that I could see a real confidence in players wanting to receive the ball in tight situations. And enjoying themselves

5 academy products a real bonus.

Cherki, a delight to watch, Khusanov will be some player. O'Reilly better and better.

Can't wait for Saturday.
7 academy lads if you include subs, Foden and Gray.

Was exhausted last night so didn't comment afterwards but that was quite a nice professional win. Sublime goal from Cherki. Savinho carried on his improvement, enjoyed him picking a scrap with Ajer, maybe he needs to become a nasty little fucker to succeed here. Positive signs.

Gutted for Oscar, he'd started the game well. Hopefully not too big a setback.

Nice to see another Academy debut, I'd liked to have seen Mfuni though as we may need to throw him in if something happens to O'Reilly while AFCON is on.

Thought Mukasa looked good, didn't look out of place at all, few sloppy turnovers but that's expected with a young player.

Onto the semis, come on City!

Great result and some slick and quick passing rondo style. Enjoyed that. Watched at a mate's who pays for Sky Sports. By the 2nd half he'd switched to a stream because the commentary was so bad.
Like I always say, don't give these cunts a penny.

Oscar was pants mate, rusty as hell as expected but some of his touches were miles off

Thought exactly the same. Similarly 4-4 at the swamp was game of season other night whereas we clung on robbing Fulham of the rightful points when we won 5-4. The spin is incredible
Yes it's funny how an 8 goal scrap between two mid table plodders is "game of the season" ,beating the 9 goal Thriller between one of the best sides on the planet ,taken to the edge by plucky Fulham on their own turf.

As you said.the spin for utd is incredible .

As I've always said...if the bbc can work hard to produce false narrative on the back page to push an agenda......it's not too far fetched to believe they do exactly the same for Front page news
And that includes the big stories over the past 5 years...
I don't believe a word they say,and find it laughable they demand a licence fee to take in their made up garbage.

Not only a scrap between two plodders but one in which half the goals were defensive blunders.

The real stars last night were the fans. To drag themselves to the stadium on such a filthy night was nothing short of magnificent.
Pep made a point of thanking the fans afterwards but it was very very quiet. After the game there was a pitiful number of fans remaining to applaud the team. The connection between fans and players isn't there at the moment and as a fanbase we should be doing something about this. Fans can make a difference but at the moment we don't. The South Stand is extremely quiet.

Average age 23.07 years.
Thank you. That could very well be a record for City. It's younger than any team in a PL competition but naturally League Cup ties have lower average ages. The Chelsea side that played at Cardiff was also very young.

City's squad is generally young this season but we have a better profile than clubs like Chelsea who imo don't have enough experience. You need players like Donnarumma, Rodri, Dias, Haaland, and young players. Last season I was struck by the excellence of very young players in the Champions League (at PSG and Barcelona).

Hinchliffe s schooling set him apart from both team mates and fans...Think he was a posh / private school type kid who would prob hv not had the sense to come across easily to working class supporters and team mates around him..in the 80s

I don't know who he supported as a kid......but there's a 50:50 chance he was a red.
Then joining City and making the YTS graduates...first big game v utd ,we score 5,he heads the 5th,and holds up his hands to the rags in the Platt lane end,ie 5 Fingers.....to really really rub it in ,on an explosive emotional day.....then gets dropped by Kendall for Harper, and leaves City ....
I reckon he will be one of those not sure/I. think so supporters who ve switched teams....now hates us
Howard Kendall wouldnt have helped, Kendall being a wild drinker and no time for an ex public school boy....
Left a bitter taste,maybe...he always sounds bitter when I've heard him.
Great header tho 5- 1!!

I met him in KFC once and he was really down to earth and friendly, had a good chat about City while we waited in the queue.

He comes across as an arsehole on commentary though for sure, I wonder if it's a case of trying too hard to appear unbiased.

worked for amazon about 7 years ago delivered a parcel to his house he wasnt in so left it with the neighbour.I asked was it the ex city player ? neighbour said yes and he was a prick

Saw Luke's- gregg-shaws error at the start ,that was enough to set me off laughing ,didn't really notice the other goals..
Luke shaw ,whenever I watch utd ,which is not often...always seems to fuck things up for utd,not SHAW what's going on in his head.....
Example,Brighton v utd few seasons back ,utd score to draw level. to get a plucky point away at Big Brighton ...oh no..enter steak bake with a crusty own goal in the last min ,from a corner
Brighton win 2-1!!!
So funny.
Long trip back to Manchester, the home of greggs.

Too many quotes away from football for him not to be a Arse at best. Don't listen to commentary anymore unless he pops up on the car radio while I am driving out and about.(non City matches).
Atleast he's bitter towards our great club.

I'm not sure the disconnect between fans and players is an "at the moment" matter. We've been plagued by early leavers for the 57 years I've been attending home games.
