Brentford (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

because we've got no real pace in the team
bobb broke away and kept the ball foden the same doku is explosive so they say but not over half the pitch only haaland and like last night needs right ball
still frustrating how we let teams set then pass it about
Wait till we get Savio over from Girona next season. He never stops going forward when he gets the ball.

It's blatant cheating by the opposition player and blatant cheating by the ref in not awarding the penalty. The influence on refs of morons like Danny Muppet who continue to massage penal offences by suggesting you don't want to give penalties for that. Well, what we saw was every opportunity to HOLD Haarland and the only thing the ref did, which they all do, is wag a finger before the corner is taken. I'd love to here what they say to these perennial foulers - If you are holding him when the kick's taken then I shall award a penalty is what the wanker should say. But Haaland is still grabbed and held and the ref has momentarily forgotten what he said, and what he should do. Holding is a penal offence, and the only conclusion you can offer is that they just don't want to be the ref who gives five pens in one half for a centre forward being held. The first fuckin' thing defenders do at corners is put both arms round the nearest torso. And yet, anywhere outside the area and they will penalise the slightest nudge, whether it was a foul or not. They are politically driven apparatchiks who toe the PiGMOL line and it trashes any notion of what is written in the LotG.
Agreed with most of what you say.

What I don't understand though, is why have we resorted to putting Haaland on the goal line for corners?? He is much more effective starting on the 6 yard line and coming in to meet the ball...

Reactions: Vic
teams stay deep, they dont commit , if they did they would get thrashed, they start at 0-0 and 99% of teams would be delighted if it finished that way, pace wont get behind a defence that sits so deep, passing and movement will, we dont need fast players usually, we need clever players who can see a space and can pick a pass, when teams do need to come out then the faster players are more helpful, control, passing and intelligence has worked for us, i really cant see why people are a bit down at the moment.
Not just that, even when they go a goal down they won't change tactics they'll still defend then if they can keep it at 1 have a go the last 10 minutes.

we actually scored from a corner with dias on goal line against spurs so now school boy corners are staple

The holding on Haaland is getting fucking ridiculous every bloody game. Since when has rugby tackles become part of football ?

Since the PL/PGMOL changed their interpretation of the LOTG at the start of this season to allow more "contact". It was clearly aimed at Haaland who had bullied defenders for fun last season and, by God, is it working as planned ....

Think Erling is on the goal line, it's to off put the goalie and 1/2 big defenders.
This should allow Rodri, Dias, Ake, Akanji or Gvardiol to come running-in to score ?
Unfortunately, City don't score from corners as much as we would hope...

I mean i know the answer … but …

Im pissed off with refs warning defenders not to hold , delaying the taking of the corner to “have words”. But then doing fuck all about it anyway.
Why not let the defenders just grapple as they wish and THEN give the pen?

Im not just talking about our games either. Its ridiculous in every game i see

This is why i go back to it not being bent as such, just extremely shite and weak referees

This was a really important, hard-fought win. The games against the deep block sides are always tough, particularly Brentford who are happy to drop 11 players into the area at times. They are a much better side with Wissa and Onyeka, who provide more running power.

Of course, these tactics are used to emphasise their strengths, which are counter attacking and oddly, goal kicks/dead balls where they can plant the ball deep into our half and then look to cause chaos to benefit from. It's all to reduce the game down to the finest margins.

It requires a patient approach, which we didn't use last season and ended up losing. At times last night we rushed the final ball, early in the first half where they almost benefitted twice. Once we became more patient and pushed them into a low block for extended periods, we should've scored through Bobb (insane block from Mee) and Bernardo's missed header.

Great goal in the end with the quick passing and benefitting from the slip (fine margins as mentioned above) Haaland ice-cold which shows his resilience after the Chelsea game.

We are doing a solid job of staying in the race without reaching our maximum yet. But we need to hit it very soon given the fixtures coming up. Showed signs v Copenhagen and hopefully we can build from here.

One final point on the corners. I think it's looking to benefit from more physical contact allowed with goalkeepers and also the proximity of the ball to the goal. As seen against Spurs, if the ball is only 2-3 yards from goal then it only needs prodding into the net, particularly if the ball is between the width of the posts. Not a header through a forest of bodies.

What is with the media up toneys arse all game , if one of our players had a long ban for gambling and was a diving champion he would have got battered every time he played , it was sickening all the arse licking he got

On the game, a win is a win, good job blueboys
