Brentford (H) | Post-Match Thread

We were only okay at West Ham, poor for a lot of the game at Newcastle, poor first half against Palace, very poor at Villa, just as bad at Wolves despite the different score line compared to the Villa game, poor in the last half hour against United, very poor at Liverpool, poor against Brighton, average at Leicester, very poor today.

The internet is ace. Previously I’d have waited to read 17 Pink Finals before coming across such unadulterated bollocks .
Aaaaagh the pink final. Loved that. I only kept the one copy when I scored for Rochdale as a young lad and was listed as 'A Trialist' My only goal as a 'pro/trialist' Was gutted when I got the paper and that was my new name - especially at training haha

I think we were particularly weak down our right hand side today. Which was odd considering Bernardo was on the pitch.

I questioned it weeks ago ? did a threat in the transfer window about selling a centre back and buying a full back

it's so unbalanced and not right for the rest of the team going forward, it's like teams can read us so much easier,
we only have one way of playing unless we use the big cross field pass, so teams can sit in 2 banks of 4, or get all players behind the ball because of nobody is offering an overlap without wing backs,

if we don't sign a new full back or 2, then I see more problems going forward, walker is injury prone and age is not on his side to stay fit long enough with the demand put on him by pep,

we are so close to having a great young squad that only needs a couple of fullbacks to be winning everything,
Could not agree with this more. It’s been so long since we had a decent left back I can’t remember what it feels like. I know we did try last window for Cucurella but Brighton valued him well beyond his worth. I note that he looks bang average at Chelsea so maybe that’s an indication of the dearth of decent lbs. Brighton thought they had us over a barrel with no plan B. They might have been right. I don’t regret not going deeper for Cucurella because I didn’t and don’t think he’s good enough but our scouts should have identified a left back over the last 5 years. To just sigh Gomez is inadequate in my view and the signing of Akangi demonstrates that money was available.

It’s our best points tally to start a season since 2018, it’s not our best level of performances to start a season since 2018.

We’ve been remarkably average for our standards despite accumulating a decent points tally.

We don’t look right to me. Don’t know if it’s mentally or finding our new way of playing difficult to get in a rhythm with or the fucking World Cup… whatever it is, we’re not ‘at it’ at all. Even when we do play well it’s isolated as a performance or even isolated to one half of a game and we don’t follow it up with any consistency.

I think it is.

2019, 2020 and 2021 were far worse.

Bullshit. The one on Laporte is a penalty. The handball is CLEARLY on the line. There was another handball by Rico Henry swept under the rug. ref refused to book Toney l, who should have been booked 2 times - then scores the winner.
nothing clear about it...

the laoprte one is 50-50 at best...happens all the time in penalty areas

I don’t agree with that at all. He rarely gave the ball away. How on earth was he bad defensively? And what were you expecting attacking wise? He’s not a right back
backing out of tackles is not a good look and he did it on one occasion at least. ...constantly beat outwide by the wide player.....lacked concentration, misplaced headers and passes.

I know he aint an attacking fullback but a professional footballer should be able to beat the first man with a cross with the time and space he had at times.

He has also played right back before for us and even did it for everton and while I agree he aint a rightback, its not a foreign position to him

Cancelo should never play again for city after that dive and cheating, hate cheating by players, and we are quick to call others that do it ? Disgrace

as for the game, truly the worst game of the season and no matter what pep says the players did not give 100% and coasted the game knowing the world cup places are more important than playing for Manchester city, maybe questions again pep about the 5 subs not being used then moaning about the players are knackered,

BUT I will say we would have taken 2nd place before the world cup with still having arsenal to play twice
Whats this 5 subs allowed ancoats, have I missed something ;-)
