the only reasons I can see for starting Mahrez is his ability from long range and also his ability in very tight spaces.

Leroy hasn't performed very well at all in any games he has come on in recently and pep was going ballistic at him with his lack of work rate in the last game (when he came on as a sub also). Im guessing KDB aint unto playing for 90 mins and is better to come on if we need to

The issue with Mahrez is that he has poor work rate and he is predictable and he looks as if his heart aint in it when he does play...but he is also a goal threat and we need that today.....

But would I have started him....no way!

Sorry. I can’t see the logic AT ALL in that.

I think the logic is that he wants Sterling on the right and needs Bernardo in the middle. Not what I would choose as I think Sane on the left and Sterling on the right is far better but let's hope he's got it right.

To be fair I would sooner see Bernardo in the middle rather than Foden as this game is just too important. But to do this we need to replace Bernardo on the wing and Mahrez is the obvious choice.

Another factor is Mahrez does have a dig from outside the box.

Exactly the lineup I expected except I thought we would see Gabby up front not Mahrez. It look like a 433 with a lot of flexibility.

I am definitely not a Mahrez fan but we know he can play. Hopefully this will be the day he delivers. If not let’s hope Pep has the hook ready.
