Some atrocious play from us at times. Given we're having full weeks off I can't see any improvement at all.
Doku was great but his end product is poor. Savinho's is even worse, but given their finishing was just as bad I'd say we're at our level - this is, 5th to 7th. That shot by Savinho... I've not played a game for almost fifteen years, have no cartilage in my knee and a weakened cruciate, and even I'd be embarrassed to miss by that much from that position. What is it? Lack of composure? Lack of ability? Confidence?
We need to improve to get champions league qualification, I suppose the one thing we can say is in our favour is that we can improve, and that is Brighton at arguably their best or better level give the form they've been in.
Seems to me we just needed to do the simple things today. Create space, then give it to the only two players on our team who could it a cow's arse with a banjo.
Whilst we could have easily lost that, the reality is that we conceded two unfortunate goals, one hitting the post after a free kick where we probably should have had a free kick for the earlier challenge (I think it was studs over Gvardiol's foot?), and another from an own goal. But both stank of panic and a lack of leadership in our own box. Feel like we need a proper defensive unit in there, a big lad who doesn't take any crap. Dias should be that guy but is guilty of as many mistakes as anyone, Khusanov maybe in time, but right now there is nobody. I'm almost now wondering if we go for Emi Martinez from Villa if Eddie moves on.
The defensive side is a big worry. Such slack passing, switching off far too easily, hit and hope. I did fear Lewis would be overrun by Mitoma after those first few moments and, whilst he did well mostly, I'm just not at all confident with him in our line up. I think a big part of that is Savinho not being brilliant today and Khusanov still learning the game.
We look like we're about to poop ourselves every time the ball came in our box. Feel like we're going to regret this result come end of the season, the only way we don't is by stepping it up and I just don't see how we'll be doing that.
