Brighton and Hove Albion PL (H) | Post Match Thread

Have to be delighted with a point as they had 2 massive chances to win that and really should have. We were our predictable self once again. Same inadequate tactics produces a similar imadequate performance. brightons disastrous finishing saved us from yet another defeat and from having lost more league games than Everton this season. The players dont matter, nothing will change until the tactics change. People want this season to end, I don't because as is we'll go into next season with thr same problem too and then serious questions will be asked.

As I see it its the same as when he started. He has to get these new players used to a system and it takes time, a season last time before we went on to what we have done, and that means them learning their roles.

The signs for me are good because the new guys we brought in are performing as we would like,. but not as a team. For me its next season that is important.

But the system has barely changed from last year but we don’t have the players to perform it and other teams have not only got better but sudsed us out.

Doku does....Haaland's too static most of the time. Savinho had 2 golden chances in the first half but wasted both. Doku clearly fucked up not sliding the ball through to Haaland in the second half though.
 
First of all I think we should acknowledge the players are trying to win each game.

The lack of quality is starring us in the face. We can’t build up from the back. We score now from individual action and not as a team dominating.

The players leaving, leave a huge hole to fill.

We are where we are.

Pep can see the problems and is seemingly helpless to or not ready to make the changes. He is leaving out 2/3 former top players which is progress.

For the 1st time in a while I have genuine reservations about the recruitment needed to get us out of the mediocre bland state.

We can bluster or accept the situation. Top 5 is probably 50/50 at best. If honest, city probably are not in the top 5 teams in the league this season.

115 Charges need to go and we need to spend top dollar on top players. 4 proper top tier players should do it.

This season is a proper come down after a 15 season bender. Fun while it lasted.

Aguero was attacked by Pep for not working hard enough for the team. He was a brilliant striker but under Pep ha improved all round. Haaland is a brilliant striker but does nothing other than score. His hold up play is very poor, ball control likewise. He does nothing other than score. If Aguero got shit off Pep why is Haaland given a free pass , he was missing yet again today.

Biggest problem with the pair is, Doku who is right footed, bizarrely can't play on the right, and Savinho who is left footed gets shoved to the right, but his best games this season have been on the left.

Bollocks it's not Haaland it's the useless cunts behind him. The only 2 games we actually played fast direct service up to him against Chelsea and Newcastle he was superb and our best performances of the season. Look at that moment today when Doku just had to play a simple pass to him and just inexplicably holds onto the ball to do nothing.
 
Normally when you look at the pass stats at least half the team are 90%+. Today just one on 90%, that in itself tells a story. Drop off in form from so many is astounding, Phil in particular. I wonder if the illness he had a few months ago affected him more than we know. When we moved the ball quickly today we looked ok but for most of the game we looked distinctly pedestrian. I want to see Haaland running in behind and actually receiving the ball, I want to see more forward passes, more movement, more fluidity. Gundo is finished at this level as a starter and unfortunately I don’t see Rico having a career at City. Our next Pl game is April and Pep needs to find a solution as he hasn’t done so yet. Even a top 5 finish might not be good enough for CL though which we need to attract top quality players. Need a top keeper, 2 top class full backs and two central / creative midfielders and a centre back as a minimum in the summer.
 
We play like a team who has been battered for 10 rounds and is trying to hang in -:)
