Brighton and Hove Albion PL (H) | Post Match Thread

I often feel like that lately, immediately after a game, but - in the cold light of day, he's our USP.

Without Pep, we'd just be another team who used to be dominant, like Milan, Juventus, United etc... It's Pep that has always justifiably given us an air of superiority, in the way that (I hate to say it) Ferguson always did for next-door. Not to mention the sense of continuity envied by most other clubs. A dynasty, even.

While he's here there's still an attraction for top players - although this must have been diluted a massive amount this season - and in any case, who can step into his shoes and genuinely expect to hit the ground running?

It's totally understandable for people to feel completely let down by him this season - I certainly do, because of the apparent apathy and lack of interest in even trying anything different for more than the odd game (and when he has, and it's worked, inconceivably reverting to type for the next game??) - but if ever a manager deserved more-than-usual slack, considering what he's going through outside the game, it's Pep.

There, he's worn me down - it usually takes until the following morning for me to think rationally like this!
Somehow I compare it to the Wenger situation

the passing is the most frustrating part we can’t even fucking do that

Frustrating indeed when we've been so used to the team being able to string passes together, or more importantly, useful passes and possession that undoes teams.

We can't do anything close to that now

Why doesn't he make a near post run for once - just to vary things and keep the defenders honest? He's stood static expecting an inch perfect cross most of the time.
He needs to work harder on his positional awareness and that part of his game definitely can be improved.

I'm hoping that by the end of the season we'll look back on today as a point gained rather than two dropped
However with no orthodox full backs and nobody tracking back (just watch Doku for their late chances) we always looked vulnerable on the counter

Marmoush looked lively in the First Half but on more than one occasion he seemed to making the same run as Haaland

In all my years of watching football I can't remember a single player beating his marker as many times as Doku without actually providing an assist or a shot on goal.

Hopefully we'll find some way of converting those runs into genuine chances, but I have my doubts.

Can't see anybody stepping up to the plate etc etc to drag this team through a very difficult period, more like a good few happy to hide
Just shows you who the mentality monsters are/were in that team, most likely those that are out injured a fair chunk

We aren’t making top 4.

It's a shame we aren't quite shit enough to miss out on the other European competitions

I don't think it'd be a bad thing to go a season with less games while we get the squad back on track with only domestic games to focus on... but instead we'll be travelling to the back arse if nowhere to play against part time players.

Obviously I'd prefer top 4. But I'd rather miss out on Europe altogether if it's not champions league. Not that we should feel superior to it, just think it'd be better for us next season.

He's chucking water out of a sinking ship with a bucket full of holes in fairness to him. It's incredibly difficult to go from the Portugese League to the Prem in January and get straight up to speed aswell. He's the least of our problems.

Hope he improves markedly, he is miles off it, when you spend 50 million I expect much more

Not a terrible result. Probably our toughest game we had left and no harm done. We should pick up enough points from our remaining fixtures.

I didn’t see the second half (family commitments) but was cautiously optimistic after the first 45

The pressing (at least in terms of energy and commitment) was much, much better. We turned over a good possession side at will and created goals from it. We haven’t seen that in a long time

We still need to improve the press from a technical standpoint (Marmoush in particular was very willing but often closing down on his own and wasting energy) but at least we had young, energetic bodies at the top of the pitch for a change

Replace Ortega, Lewis, and Gündy in that XI with three top-drawer players (Rodri being one of them) and I don’t think the future is entirely bleak

Fuck me Savinho needs to learn how to finish though. Get him a sports psychologist, an exorcist, whatever it takes
