Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I thought we played very well indeed in the first half on Saturday and well for much of the second half. Brighton are a very good side and are capable of beating any team, so it's no disgrace to lose. We didn't fall apart as we did at the start of the second half as we did on Tuesday and at times we we had much the better of the play even after half time, but the fact remains that we haven't scored twice in a match since Sparta Prague on 23 October, and in the PL since Wolves on 20 October - 6 or 7 games ago. While we have only scored 12 goals and conceded 11 in those 7 games, we have scored only 4 in the last 5 games but have conceded 10.

Injuries have to have played a major role in our "slump". Rodri suffered injury which has ruled him out for the season and his absence is a blow of incalculable importance, and KdB has been absent effectively all season. Phil has had his struggles and doesn't look fully fit even now. Our midfield is still formidable but is not the all conquering steamroller that it once was and it doesn't give the same protection to our backline that it used to. And that backline is not the same. Our captain is clearly not match fit, though he performed valiantly on Saturday, Gvardiol is carrying a knock as is Stones, Dias can't play because of injury and Ake has struggled with injury all season. The result is that in central defence we rely on a lad who is barely 19 and A N Other who is not as unfit as the others! Our 19 year old doesn't even know who is partner is, and has never really played with them anyway! Rico has to defend and try to move into midfield. We are vulnerable through the middle and down the right. What a surprise!

Up front Erling has been in excellent form but Jack is out and Doku and Savinho are struggling. Nunes has come in and performed very well. But all in all it is a wonder that we can still play at all like the "well oiled machine" we have been for as long as anyone can remember. We have a major problem, but the major consolation is that if anyone can solve it Pep can.

Morning Fellas & Fellettes, was at the Amex on Saturday. City were fabulous first half and deserved a more than 1-goal lead. Brighton were fabulous second half and deserved their goals. It was a great game of football played by two excellent footballing sides. Reports of your demise are wildly premature. From a friendly voice on the south coast.
Piss off rag!!!

Only joking, fair analysis really. Story of our downfall in not killing games off when in control. Brighton are ace, enjoy your season.

Don't think we can expect Haaland to be continually performing at his very best playing 90 minutes 60+ times a season for club and country. Also increases the risk of injury, and what do we do if that happens? Need a backup option who can take the weight off his shoulders when needed like alvarez did
We still have players in the squad who can still step up if required.

Just want to offer my tuppence on our recent form and a lot of it is an amalgamation of other posters thoughts.

First a brief bit to get rid of the chaff.
The Charges are affecting everyone. New stand says hello.
Two world class players in every position. Simply not true and evidenced Pep prefers a small squad. In addition no club in the world has 22 players of identical ability.

Attempting some logic for the wheat.
Eight quality players missing including our entire back four plus Rodri and our talisman KDB.
An amalgamation of the strains of four in a row plus a rolling 12 months of continuous football.

The Pep Conundrum and squad strength.
Just my opinion but I don’t believe for minute that Khaldoon and Sheikh do not have a precise plan for succession. This obviously includes Pep and the Squad.
Again my opinion is that either the right type of players were not available last summer or Pep is leaving. If the latter is true I am convinced a replacement is already lined up.

I thought we let Gundogan go at the right time and was surprised to see him return.
I think there is a lot more going on with strict NDA’s.
For my part I expect to see Kyle,KDB, Gundogan and possibly even Jack go at the end of the season.
I think we may go dipper and replace the entire midfield and new RB along with Etcheverri. Who comes in will depend on Pep.

Some serious toxicity in this thread..
We need to support the team and stick by em no matter what.. Just like most of us FOC did through the dark ages ..
Some of the comments I’ve read on here????

Having an opinion on a players/managers performance is one thing but calling em cunts is fuckin ridiculous.. !

Onwards and upwards, we are Blues, not mard arsed rags n dippers… CTWD..

Its November and the flappers have really shown their true colours. Scared twats, no cahones. Fancy giving up supporting your own club because you dont win. wtf!
I fear for football in future with those sort of expectant fans only ever accepting winwinwin otherwise go support another team. Jeez so fkin flakey some of the City fans in here.

My take on the game now all the negative twats have filled their boots in here... We are missing not just players, but a ton of experience. That moment when Brighton scored, if we had our first teamers our nerve would have held and even if not we would have scored and won. But we have youths, inexperience, 2nd stringers in our first team. Not something the media like to highlight when its City. We've all heard about Odegaard, we all hear about vvd when he is injured, but yet again (Like when we only had Laporte left and still won the title) no one in the media will even acknowledge City are dealing with massive injuries.

Imagine lfc without VVD, Trent, Konate, Roberston, Salah, 1 other at the same time for weeks, its that simple.

What he wanted couldn’t be offered or else we’d have kept him. Great player, but he has been quiet in some big games.
Mahrez was finishing up perfect time to be given his time. But we flogged him for 40m to a rival - he scores banger in world cup final / many goals and assista and looks a top player. Massive fuk up selling him NO question!

I’m not sure how we’d have kept him happy. That’s the issue.

I was called this that, and the other when I was criticizing us despite us winning earlier in the season, and, well, the chickens have come home to roost. I said giving Walker a three-year extension, despite Pep benching him in the CL final, was utterly ridiculous, and I have been proven right, for over two years now, at that.

The harsh truth is that Pep is more concerned about his net spend and how it looks upon his legacy than the quality of our current squad. I know that will be controversial, but surely this won’t: he’ll leave the club in far worse shape for the next manager than he found it. I refuse to believe he could watch Cole Palmer in our matches/training, day in and day out, and say,’ yeah, he CAN’T go on loan. He either stays or is sold.’ while having the CLUB’s interest at heart.

As I said before, a downturn was expected, but the squad planning has been awful, and if it solely has to do with the charges against us, then fair enough.

We’ve got a fight on our hands for the top four now.
Wow. That's some statements to be making.

His first season he had a squad with Mangala, Bony, Iheanacho, Fernando ect along with players at the end of the careers like Clichy, Kolorov, Zabaleta and Sagna...

Pep completely transformed the squad something in which he gets nowhere near enough credit for because apparently "He only works well with money", If that was the case why hasn't the Rags, Dippers, Arsenal and Chelsea done nowhere near what we have done in the last 9 years under Pep, In fact I'm pretty sure we've more league titles under Pep than all of those teams combined in that period.

As for Walker 3 year contract extension and you been "proven right" how have you come to that conclusion? In the past two years we've completed a treble and winning four league titles on the bounce, In the treble season Walker made near 30 Premier League Appearances along with numerous Champions League appearances including putting Vini Jr in his arse pocket in the Semi-Finals.

For a manager that has done all he has done for us, It's a sad state of affairs to blemish him as you are doing.

We have lost four games in a row and all of a sudden our manager and players are shit, Incredible.

It's going to be piss funny when Pep "proves you wrong" as he does all the time.

Lack of goals is killing us, unless Haaland scores we're no threat, Foden has fell off a cliff, only other player who looks like scoring is our left back, shocking really.
We're not killing teams off, we're conceding far too easily and when it happens we lack the bottle and leadership to turn it around.
We've got away with players playing various positions, square pegs in round holes isn't working.
We've got an injury crisis, we've got a confidence crisis, we've took our eye off the ball in the transfer market, time for Pep to turn it around if he can.
Our league position is baffling considering how shit we've been :)
Eleven games in - the table does not lie. Full strength Arsenal, Newcastle, Arsenal, Villa, Spurs and United are 4th, 8th, 10th and 13th. We are 2nd and can play much better.

Unfortunately, we have some some twitchy fans who do not understand Prem football - or how to coach a team and run a club. These fans blurt out a load of opinions in a panic. Thankfully, the club doesn't ask these twitchy fans for advice on coaching and management.........

Any team in the Premier league without the quality of players we have missing their standards would drop.
Hopefully most of them back soon I do not understand the panic ffs.

Not sure Big Erl suits a Pep team once you hollow out all the other goal scorers.
I agree, I love big 'erl. he is the best 1 v 1 finisher since Henry tbf. BUT...you need a team that plays on the counter for that...we don't....i think Pep was sort of encouraged to fit him in due to the selling clause of £50m...possibly a commercial decision more than a pure footballing one. To me the most attractive style of football we played was not necessarily a false nine but with a very mobile fit CF (Aguero in his pomp / youth) We just had many more options..el magio helped though!

Don't you think that's what forums are for - no one expects or wants the club to listen...Imagine if that happens at your work - random people, possibly majority with no experience commenting on your orgs work!! Forums are a place for fans to debate - for that you need different opinions...we'd be in North Korea without an aired opinion

Not much difference between Liverpool v ( 2 wins) Brighton and Brighton 2 City 1. Brighton played 24 players over the 3 games, probably a stronger side v City. I expect Brighton to be in the top 6 at the turn of the year. Chelsea 4 BHA 2 were the strongest team they have played.

Too true. Haaland is in danger of following Rodri onto the long-term injury list.
