Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

Where we came from is not a phrase you use to excuse mediocrity.

Our left back played for wolves. Our “right back” played for wolves.

We have two wolves players playing for the most technical coach in the games history and one is out of position and has the hunger of an anorexic. He has the bite of a flower.

I know where we just came from. 4 consecutive prem titles. Mendy, Danilo, Walker and Cancelo. All actual accomplished full backs. We won in spite of issues at the position and now have the hubris to think we don’t need any. The gig is up.

We need actual accomplished full backs.

A season with 1 left back with potential and no other full backs is absolute madness.
Jamie Vardy played for Stocksbridge park steels and won a Premier League title as well as lifting POTY so jog on pal.

Lol

Our reign has come to an end , we haven't bought in players that have a winning mentality or are good enough to dominate games like we once used to on a regular basis if at all now and we will go where every side eventually goes that once challenged for honors each year.

Its not the end of the world its been coming for a while now and things will get a lot worse before they get better again.

it happens to every side and its our turn now after some great times and for a long time in fact as cycles go.

We will need a complete overhaul of the squad and most likely a new manager before we see the days of the old guard return.

We were perhaps spoilt with the quality and the mentality we once had but that's over now.

In a way it will be interesting to see us bottom out to a mid table team which we are now for a while ( I cannot see us finishing anywhere near top four this season ) and then begin the next phase to success.

Team has ZERO (positive) PERSONALITY and the narrative atm is “Wait, wait, wait, contain, contain, contain, NOW ATTACK THEM WITH FRESH LEGS WHILE THEIR OLD GUYS ARE KNACKERED!”

We lose waaaay too many points to the Brentfords and Brightons, and then last year we failed to beat the Top 6, too!

Looks like this season is starting the same way and with a BIG international calendar, a difficult CL group, and the domestic cup competitions, it feels like we are going to be struggling all season.

There’s always a chance things click, as they did in the first game at Wolves, but we looked so far off it today (even with 60 mins of “domination”) against a team with no names and fucking Welbeck leading the line. Throw in the fact that a 39.5 yr old boy scored against us (his first goal in donkey’s years) and then a player I don’t know and have never heard of scoring the winner with clinical skill and poise while we flung ourselves all over the place, and it’s not looking particularly good!

Pep is a stubborn fuck and his era may just have outlived itself, but the ENTIRE STRUCTURE OF THE TEAM looks lightweight, with the only real strength being the older players who are on the wane.

Back to front, Lewis, Nunes, Ait Nouri, Gonzales, Reijnders, O’Reilly, Cherki, Bernardo, Foden, Gundogan, Doku, Bobb, Savinho are ALL LIGHTWEIGHTS or squad players, who are never going to give you the fight needed in difficult games.

Accordingly, we are getting OVERRUN ALL OVER THE PARK, and then pressed to death when in possession. We are like that well oiled machine that gets some sand in it at the moment. We need a service!!!

Window is closing in 48 hours and we desperately need some middle of the park steel and someone who can score half chances, because January might already be too late for the PL and CL campaigns.

I don’t know man, I feel the board have changed mentality completely. The signings the last few years do not show ambition.
Agree, said this before, just switched off after the treble.

Add to that the decent ones we let go.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could handle being poor.

Reckon it's time the club and Pep had serious conversations. We're going nowhere and from what we've already seen top 4 looks well beyond what we're able to achieve

The rest of the league has caught up. Managers have figured us out a year ago. Our build up play is like watching paint dry and it's no longer enjoyable to even watch us play, win, lose or draw

The life has been sucked out of the game at this club. Slow, sterile and boring. We have some amazingly fast explosive players but they are made to play in a system that completely strips away their talent. Which is fair enough when the system is working but it certainly ain't anymore.

We aim to be going far in Europe every season and emulating the likes of Madrid but playing the way we do week in, week out and now season after season means we're more Atletico than Real.

I love Pep, he's given me some of the greatest times of my life, but nobody is beyond criticism or has an unlimited shelf life. We need a different direction.
Spot on.

Yeah in 2 years....
If performances carry on in this manner, he won't make it until February. He always said he'd walk if he felt the fans weren't behind him, and I've never seen so many fans not behind him as I do now. He may turn it around, but sadly I don't think he has the fire in him anymore

Pep's style no longer works in the Prem. The Prem is about defending (especially against us) then an attacking with intensity - often on the break. This works better against certain teams also and unfortunately we are one of those teams.Possession football just allows other teams to sit back and defend. Then they attack and we aren't set up to defend. We can have all the control in the world but it means nothing when it means we're toothless on attack and weak at the back. Then when we need a goal possession football just doesn't cut it.
It’s about intensity. Move the ball quickly - and retain it - and yes, the opposition tire and then spaces and chances open up. We used to do that relentlessly. Now, we are FAR too slow and laborious and create nothing. And I might add, boring as fuck to watch. We really are tediously dull.

True. Some of our attempted passes were laughable. Kicking it straight at an opponent, or playing one of our own into immediate trouble. We used to always have 2 or 3 players in space for the man in the ball to pass to. It’s like whatever Pep taught us has all been forgotten. We can’t retain possession for 2 minutes any more. Let alone in the opponents half.
I couldn't agree more! All of what you've said is correct.

One more thing whilst I sit here fuming if we were a manager, our opposing team puts on four subs do we react? Expecting them to lift themselves and have loads more energy? Or just stay with the same thing that has become increasingly ineffectual? it was obvious they were throwing the dice. We waited too long.
Ps watching other teams this season, we are so so slow it looks like a different league.

Just watching the Liverpool v Arsenal game, all about power and speed. Everything we don’t have right now.
Completely disagree, we used to beat everyone with a team full of technicians. These days we just have runners who don't know what to do with the ball!

I'm really concerned about Lijnders being our assistant manager.

that's the worst wev'e been for a long time, at times it was like watching a womens game with the amount of misplaced passes and tackles lost, half arsed, half hearted shite, you could almost think he's lost the dressing room watching that absolute steaming turd of a clueless performance
