Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

We will pummel them, score, miss a load of chances and get rinsed a couple of times on the break and lose. Similar to most weeks
Sadly this is my thought on that game too.
We just don't put away enough of our chances and are too prone to errors at the back. They are crap but they will press like crazy and be very physical, everything we struggle with.

Dias on their 2nd goal, good grief. Just given him another contract too...on the basis of what Pep? Been distinctly meh for a period now

Haaland does not give 100% and you can see it when he's walking around doing nothing

If you think Haaland is the issue you aren’t watching. He has nobody attacking the box at tempo. It starts from the back but our wingers just freeze and then with no overlap Haaland is nullified. Same as last season.

Our spine is fine but until we sorted the sidelines we are so easy to defend against.

If you think Haaland is the problem you should probably give up watching football.

Here are the problems:

1 No right back in the squad that is good enough in any fashion.
2 Centre half - Dias is horrible to say the least, others are constantly injured or will be
3. RAN, Reijnders, Marmosh - the complacency is shocking especially from RAN
4. No wide players - our wide players today are both no.10s
5 Midfield balance- Even as good as Rodri is that midfield is horribly exposed......taking Bernardo SIlva off exposed it even more...besides Rodri no one other than berarndo has ANY defensive awareness. No creativity in there either.
6 we now have a goal keeper who makes our defenders nervous when he has the ball - he is a great shot stopper dont get it twisted BUT the whole back line is constantly under more pressure because teams. are now pressing us higher up the pitch (everyone will do this) as they know mistakes happen....keeper or defender kicks it long and we are not set up to do this so the possession is then lost.

ALL valid points

But Haaland stands out because of the records he breaks ? coating and not giving 100% from the strikers is the first thing you see

But we saw exactly the same last season. People need to stop making excuses. We're now well past our peak and having Cherki fir, or buying a right back aren't going to solve that.
We weren’t the same last season until we got an unprecedented amount of injuries. Plus we were already on the slide in the 2023-24 season. Our great team had come to it’s end then which is why the rebuild was needed.

Today was just our fourth game of pre-season. It’s the equivalent of the Chelsea pre-season game last year in Ohio the week before the Community Shield.

Only thing is, it’s the third game of the PL season!

Maybe we should have organised a couple of friendlies in the last two midweeks to get more match fitness in these lads’ legs? because look massively undercooked! We’ve struggled to do anything in the second half of both the last two games because fitness is nowhere fucking near ready for a PL season.

As well as that, we also need to be much more patient and realistic with this team we’ve got now. It’s a squad that’s been assembled quickly in large numbers between January and this Summer. I’ve never seen a football team do well after signing so many players in such a short space of time, ever before. So, why are people expecting it to happen with us now?

It’s a young, inexperienced team with a huge drop in quality from what we were used to seeing from 2017-2024. Elite players have taken time to settle under Pep’s tactics, never mind young lads who’ve never challenged for titles before.

We have to look at us now as a team that’s building for the 2027-28 season, much like in 2009 we were building for the 2011-12 season. That’s where we are. We are in a complete rebuild. With Ederson Stones Aké Akanji Kovačić Gündoğan and BSilva all likely not going to be here by next Summer, it will leave us with no more than half a dozen players in the entire squad who’ve won anything with us. This time next year will be much the same as now because more young, inexperienced players like Reis Bah Nypan and Ecehverri (plus maybe a few more signings) come back to replace those I’ve just mentioned who’s time is nearly up, to keep this full rebuild going.

In the meantime we need to stop with the unrealistic demands that this team need to be playing well together already, playing at a standard most of them have never played at before in their careers as soon as they pull on our shirt, or any notions of madness some might have that these lads should be playing at the standard of prime DSilva and De Bruyne and winning the PL+CL.

It’s like we have comic book expectations of them with no consideration or understanding of the inexperience and newness of this squad.

Time to show what we’re worth as a set of fans and get behind this team like we did the 2009-10 and 2010-11 teams where we had a much more grounded expectations of the team from that era. I think of those as ‘the Poznań years’, they were fun and exciting. We should be enjoying all this, not fucking seeing our arses because we’re not going to get 90 points in the PL or have a trip to Budapest in the CL. These young lads need us to get behind them, and we aren’t doing that.
Sounds good in theory. In reality, look at who we bought in the summer of 2009 followed by 2010. Now look at who we signed in the last 2 years.

Not quite the same is it.

Complacency whilst at the top by those at the top. We have basically sleepwalked into mediocrity. That said, I think a new manager would get a better tune from these players.

I’m afraid Pep is done. He’s achieved amazing and incredible things, but no one lasts forever.

Despicable, embarrassing, pathetic, turgid, spineless rubbish.

There needs to be serious questions asked about Pep’s future after that, its been a whole year nearly of this shit and it’s only getting worse.

All the optimism of pre season gone, the same shit happening game in game out and fuck all changing - apparently we don’t need to though because ‘we’ (different set of players) won so many trophies previously. Yes those words left pep’s mouth.

Strap yourselves in.

Glad we have a two Week break, maybe the team will get some balls in the meantime. We could be in the bottom three come October at this rate.

Then look at the game in the bigger picture and not in isolation of one player...haaland did his job today and put the ball in the back of the net.

Our midfield balance however and lack of wide players are making him very isolated however

Well that’s put the final nail in the coffin of a bobbins weekend. Split with my missus on Friday, rags win yesterday, my bedding has blown off the line today and got filthy and City lose.
Was about to send you my sympathy and hope that you were ok but the bedding on the line bit made me laugh, sorry!

When was the LAST time you seen Haaland wanted the ball into his feel or coming deep to pick it up and run at the defenders

You build when winning titles and cups and not letting it pass you by for a season
And that sums up the shit we are seeing now.

When we was at the top we should have kept our foot on the throats of the opposition.

Buy the best. Be ruthless.

We are a mess. A total re think required from the top brass.

Their fucking about in the bargain bin is now going to cost more to fix than spending money on top players in the first place.
