Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

Just read some utter tosh they posted straight after the match on their 93.20 feed...apparently it's all down to lack of fitness but "sprinkles of very good" apparently. Turning into a bunch of happy clappers who are very dismissive of anybody who dares to think otherwise. They desperately need some folk on there with different views to the main man.

Sprinkles of bullshit more like.

His philosophy doesn’t tie with our current squad though and we have zero leaders on the pitch, no Fernandinho no Kompany. Still I suppose we will get a nice picture just before the derby of a a smiling team having won a five a side game

I know mate, I have no answers to this. Shite in the league last season, shite in the champions league, shite in the club world cup, not one new player has impressed consistently over the last three transfer windows.

We were hopeful after the wolves game but if seems that was one hell of a false dawn.

IMHO we need one or two players who can can actually dribble and beat defender(s) CONSISTENTLY, that upsets defences and opens up spaces. I get so frustrated watching Doku and chums try it, get pushed out wide and then stop and pass backwards over and over again. I don't know if Pep tells them not to try in case we lose the ball but it makes us incredibly predictable and easy to play against.
I don’t rate Doku at all, but he’s not got a left foot and pep plays him on the left wing in a slow system. He has to cut back in. Every. single. fucking. time. I also think they are told to retain the ball rather than to go for it.

You’re spot on about us being predictable

Some dropoff in quality was expected after our amazing standards but that it would be this huge is remarkable.

To be more or less impossible to take the ball from to not being able to string together a couple of quality passes is baffling

We are piss poor at the basics now and Pep has to shoulder the responsibility in part for that , crosses , set pieces, pace , power its amazing how poorly the skill level in all facets of the game has dropped off notwithstanding our squad is not a patch on what it was a few seasons ago.

As some have mentioned we are a shocking watch these days and weak as piss when it comes to strength way too many light weights.

IMO our worst squad in almost every position for many a year and as no side in the premiership IMO is going to challenge for the Chumps League this season the drop off is immense.

I feel like we definitely have fitness issues, which has already been mentioned. But while pep continues to push our defence so far up the field leaving far too much space for teams to break into, we will continue to struggle, especially if we can't score a second goal when we are on top. This is not a pep out comment either.

He said in his press conference that he will not change his ideology.
Well, he did say - after the Saints match that marked the start of the decline in results - "I can learn a lot from Russell Martin"

I still can't believe that he said it :-(

I know we had no pre-season, we’re bedding in a lot of new players, there are 35 games to go and I’m certainly not despairing after one more than satisfactory performance and two sore disappointments. But I did not appreciate the complete lack of urgency in the eight or nine minutes remaining after Brighton took the lead. They didn’t even seem that bothered when the ref failed to give an obvious corner in the last few seconds.

We’re Man City, we used to fight to the end

We cannot persist with a high line with the defenders we employ, they can’t do it, and neither can the midfield cover for them.

It was the end of an era last season, nothing has changed, we have brought in new players but are still miles off it. It has to be time for a change in direction, and hurtful as it is that means the end of the road for the best manager this world has ever seen. It’s not a knee jerk reaction to a poor performance, we had many of them last season, including the cup final. We/Pep are stale….. not a clue who but mak a change and build a statue of Pep

The problem is we are trying to replace world class players in key positions. Walker, prime Stones ( He's dropped off due to injuries and age)Kev, Gundo and Mahrez. Also Akanji and Ake did great jobs as well but age and injuries have caught up with them too. You can probably add Ederson to that list too as he was instrumental in how we played. We have signed a load of players with potential but whether they progress and fulfil it is a gamble.
