If Ait-Nouri is fit and plays, I think we can win. His going off against Spurs showed how imbalanced we become in the absence of key players in key areas. It also revealed how short we are in squad depth in those areas. A win would set us up for the international break, a draw would raise questions over how underprepared we are, and a defeat. Oh mercy.

Really tough game and I think we'll win by the odd goal, but not without some obligatory VAR nonsense. Like a dodgy red card.

Brighton 1-2 City

Nunes and RAN to be used as overlapping fullbacks.

Makes no sense putting players like Marmoush, Bobb, Foden or Cherki on the wing when theyre at their best cutting inside.
I’d love to see Khushanov playing right back with Stones and Dias and either RAN or O Reilly at left back.

Midfield of Gonzo, Rodri and Reinders

Cherki on the right, Foden left wing.

Haaland up front.

Brighton are quite an expansive side, especially at home, so that might favour us and we'll see another Wolves type performance.

That said, its City innit and we have new players still bedding in without a proper pre-season behind us compared to the rest.

I'll take a scoring draw, which will be an improvement on last season down there.

This!

Baffled me last week seeing RAN sit back while Marmoush was told to get chalk on his boots out wide. The opposite of both of their strengths.

Maybe Pep was worried about Spurs on the transition? Not sure. But a few years ago we didn't give a fuck about that kind of stuff and just played to our own strengths instead!

Even Gvardiol last season was being used as an attacker but RAN has been told to sit back in the opening 2 games.

Early doors but still feeling our way and so far erratic. Brighton have the capability to exploit our continuing defensive frailties (along with 18 others!).Recency bias means I don’t feel it will be our day.

Can we acquire a defensive coach ASAP as who ever is doing it now is utter bobbins.

I was always worried that a “rebuild” might involve little more than getting out the cheque book.

We do have a couple of new coaches, though, so let’s see them start to earn their corn.
