i really should be somewhere else
i ve been thinking................. years ago in div 1 and 2, i was generally stressed watching city! every game WAS HUGE IN ITS IMPORTANCE! It was our very survival! i can remember Notts county away...we were about to be promoted if we won! county were 3rd bottom of the league me and my mate (about 16 yrs old) got on a national express coach to Nottingham to watch city get promoted! It was a gloriously sunny day!

guess what? we were getting beat 2-0 (?) at half time!....city fans rioted , it was madness! this was the real deal!

today i hear we are in the champs league and i do love it, but its not survival! i will go to every league and cup game this season but its not do or die! i would love to do well in the chumps league but i won t lose sleep if we don t ! there is no real stress now...we have an outstanding team, the best i can remember, but i won t get upset at results because our survival doesn t depend on it!

love it city! glad i put in all that time years ago! your making my life easy nowadays!

bring on the brian munich, bring on napkins, bring on areyouforreal!

we are ready! no stress! lets meet and do it!

me too.. im used to "survival" like matches.. im actually quite ashamed on how we built our superstrong teams.. i am one of the few against this but young lads will always prefer to live the FM dream and throw all the club ideology and history in the garbage

Although the stresses of old are not there anymore, there is still the tension of expectation. If we don't achieve what is expected of us then the stress remains but in a completely different manner.

I was at that game. Seems like we were losing 2-0 after 4 minutes. Didn't feel like rioting - we were packed like sardines in one end.. and 80% of the rest of the stadium was empty... the fences kind of burst and we spilled onto the pitch and given we were losing, didn't really feel like hurrying back. Then the police horses came. I don't recall any rioting.. although the papers made it look like that.

You're not Colin Shindler are you?

I have been lucky to enjoy success for over 20 years now, but I do remember a time when we weren't challenging for titles etc - it just feels different, being the underdogs gives you a massive boost when you get one over them. Its not often that this happens now (well, Barca of course but that goes for everyone)

I get to a lot of Rochdale games when I can and the feeling there when they are victorious is great, less so a formality than when im at OT, so I can see where you are coming from

Now we're at the top (or challenging for it) I feel no pressure at all. If we're in a last game of the season show-down to win the league title and come second on goal difference or if we lose in a cup final I wont be absolutely gutted. I'd be disappointed we didn't get the ultimate success but overall I'd be greatful we're in this position and know there'll be other occasions where we will win.

Now, a last game of the season relegation show-down, that's real pressure.

Also I've spoken to United fans - and as a Wire fan, to Wigan and Saints fans - and many tell me the best time is the start of a run if success. The edgyness of still bein unsure of what proper success is then having the success, is better than turning up and expecting success.

Pretty sure it was 3-0 to Notts at half time mate.

When I look back at the old days in the late 90's early 2000's I do have great memories and warmth for them all of those "typical City" moments, the Joe Royle interviews the ups the downs the promotions the relegations being a City fan in the old days was challenging and emotionally draining but that is what supporting a team is all about, obviously the relegations broke my heart and seeing us in the 3rd tier also did but then the comeback what a game my heart stopped when Dicko scored it was amazing, what I am trying to say is supporting City back in the 90's was like being on a rollercoaster in the dark you just didn't know where it would take you.
But nowdays to be in the CL to have won the FA Cup and to be mentioned as title contenders is unbelievable we have come so far recently and instead of last day of the season relegation dramas we will have last day of the season title dramas, bring it on
Bring on everyone and anyone

Watching the Sunderland game at the end of last season. We were expected to win and we were about 2 or 3 goals up. The Stadium was quiet, the opposition was appalling and I thought to myself, this is what it is gonna be like. From now on, the only BIG games will be European ties and the big four or five. We will be expected to demolish the lesser teams on a regular basis.

Get used to it. It'll be like the Swamp.

It's ironic.

Years ago they did a study into what incarceration does to the human mind. They took people that had been locked up for years, and they released them, leaving their cell doors open and giving them the free choice between walking out into the light or staying in their cells, and nearly all of them wanted to stay.

City are the footballing equivalent of a club who have been kept locked in a basement for decades having urine and excrement tipped on them daily, getting buggered by their Dad on a regular basis, with the occasional kind word and cuddle just to confuse us.

Now someone has opened the door to a big table full of cake and beer, there's a nudie lady lay on the bed beckoning, and Dad has been locked away, but for some reason we want to go back in the cell and have piss thrown on us again.
