If it's true, and he wants to stay, then credit to him, because he is passing up the chance to win anything until the end of his career and a bit part player at that. He must love the club and fans (and maybe the money too).
Personally I would love him here, PL experienced so less risk, a position we need, the ability to play others and that's before Pep gets a grip. Fee/wages are irrelevant.
