is updating this month and all my recordings are going to be deleted including all the important games from last season.
I've copied recordings onto DVD before but found they look laggy especially with football so don't want to go down this route again.
So I've took the box apart and connected the hard drive to my computer to copy the contents but nothings happening. It looks like either BT have locked the hard drive to stop people doing this or I'm doing it wrong. Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to erase the drive/ reformat etc just see the contents and copy the recordings, then put it back in time for its update.

My friend has just called me on another matter and seeing as he has BT Vision and he is an IT technician I took the opportunity to ask him about this.

The first thing he said was not to use BT Vision as a historical archive for your recordings, which probably seems obvious now. He also said that the computer probably won't recognise the hard drive because it's not a true hard drive in the normal sense, it's run by special software in the box, and the programme files aren't saved as the usual file type that you would recognise on a computer.

It rather sounds like it's back to plan A and laggy recordings. Or you could get the season DVD from the shop if it's just the football you're worried about.

There may be other solutions. He did say that he hadn't really thought about this issue and his answer was very much on the hop, if you will.

Good luck.

I have most of last seasons games archived in nice 720p x264 walkbustaxi if you would like them.

As mentioned it's a bit of a rip-off they make it so you can't transfer from your own sodding box.
It is a seagate drive with a custom firmware from what i read and is very hard to sort it out.

You can either burn the data to disks, upload to me and i wil properly encode them for you or just download them off me.

Cheers for the replies FLBC and TCIB. Looks like you're both right, tried everything even going into the box through ethernet but it's not having it.

I've taken the opportunity while the box is open to put in a new 500gb HD ahead of update as 160gb was always near full capacity. Also if someone comes up with a way of cracking the pipeline drive in the future (as opposed to merely reformatting them, which is the most anyones done to date so far) then hopefully I've still got the recorded data on this drive.

Slightly off topic TCIB, regarding laggy recordings. I've only ever downloaded one of your games, the Real Madrid away match as I forgot to record it myself. I send all my tv/films etc wirelessly to TV and your download played perfectly like live tv. Mine on the otherhand look good on iPad,phone or computer but don't look right when played on the tv. This was part of my reasoning in hoping to transfer the data from box to computer as I think something goes wrong in the burn to dvd/rip dvd to computer/convert to mpeg process. All other programmes I've converted seem to play fine on the tv it's just the footy. Any ideas why?
