Budget

One I'm in Qatar (Dubai is not regulated so any guy in my industry worth his salt wouldn't be seen dead there). And two, at 33, I'd retire to the Far East if I could no longer work out here.

Good luck to you in qatar mate hope you carry on doing well I mean that sincerely, but spare a thought for the coughers and splutterers who don't know where their next cig and greggs pasty is coming from.

Not disagreeing Malg. It's just that the self confessed right wingers do seem to get worked up into an almost vitriolic bukkake with the concept of an 'under class' when it happens.
Yep. It just seems that for the last 12 months or so (maybe longer) these threads have gotten a little childish. Sometimes it's fun, but a lot of the time it's just boring. Maybe I'm just getting older? Some of the views on here, espoused by both sides, makes me realise that I must be 'apolitical' - or just apolitical where Bluemoon political threads are concerned.

Oh, good use of the word 'bukkake' by the way.

Both sides like to outdo each other in extremes, sensible debate has long gone

The budget itself from what I have read briefly had some good ideas but has been executed badly, overall it was pretty wank

With you on this one Malg. I think, as we get older, that we see there is a very grey area on issues like this.
I'm always of the mind that we should take people as we find them, as individuals, rather than labelling.

At least we have the good taste not to do so on a war memorial.

Probably done by some upper middle class kid trying and failing to be 'controversial.' Bit like the step son of that Pink Floyd guy did.

How is he taking 25% of everyone's pension?

He's announced plans to change the way contributary pensions operate. At present your contributions come from your gross salary, before tax. Creepy will change it so that your contributions come from your net salary. This will effectively mean he takes 25% of your pension.

People are living longer and working less so this is another ticking time bomb that the Tories have left for future generations to clear up. Apparently there are going to be huge forests of Tory money trees in the future that will pay for everything. They've even got one as their logo.

Most people take individuals as we find them, the issues come when problems are blamed on groups of people and we don't see these groups as groups of individuals. It's not immigrants on this thread, it's the low paid or out of work, don't work hard enough or should have done better to get a better paid job.

Wouldn't life be fun if everybody was in professional jobs with professional wages? Who would we have to look down on and blame for the state of the economy?

There was a cafe owner on the news this morning being asked about the budget. She was complaining that she would struggle to pay the new wage. When asked about the tax breaks she conceded that the business would be better off.

However, she could not help but have a parting dig at the wage increase.

Why is this? She admitted she would be better off why could she not accept a better wage for her staff?

I'd love a read of your source for this.

At present, your pension comes from your pay net of tax and you get your tax added back. Not as you state it above.

So you pay in 80 and another 20 is added back from the government. You are then taxed on your pension income when you retire.

One proposal would be to not get your tax credit now, and therefore not pay tax on your pension income in retirement. Which is exactly the same way that ISAs and before PEPs have worked for nearly 29 years.

Are you sure you're not simply confused? You certainly sound it.

Edit: and nothing is even concrete yet.
