I've always found it strange that the one who was the 'ringleader' is actually the one who has seemed to settle down best

I've always wondered about that too. Their sentences were laughable. It's like poor James never mattered.

Almost as if the one who was deemed to be the most 'damaged' benefited best from the rehabilitation. Although I think the venables family were, on paper, deemed to be the most 'normal' (2 working parents etc) I think there was an awful lot going on there that was really dysfunctional.

I don't believe in the death penalty for starts.

Wanting the state to be able to kill children is fucking warped. We are a civilised society, this isn't the USA, Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, Russia or Saudi Arabia.

Yes they should have been punished but killing children is nothing I want part off.

The program that was just on said he also posed as the mother of an imaginary 7 year old child online and tried to sell it for sex.

He was the weaker of the two, emotionally unstable and easily manipulated/bullied, he was probably done over all ends up in care!

It's no surprise that he's failed to adjust to adult life, whereas the other lad (described as cold and calculating if memory serves) seems to have breezed through (although we have no real idea if this is true or not).

Makes you wonder how he may have turned out had he not run into Thompson that day. The signs were already there though and maybe that was the catalyst for Thompson.

I sometimes wonder why we can't just discuss something like this that has happened and look at the tragedy instead of the usual accusing people of maybe doing something in the next 10 seconds. McManus is missing the point in all of this ! It's about a little boy who lost his life in the most unthinkable circumstances, it's not about the posters in this forum

Stepford Bob the Bulger case has been debated a few times on this very part of this website and every time a few posters have been adamant that we as a country should have killed two 10 year old children. Didn't start the thread just knew how it would go.

I don't believe anybody is born evil. We're all, at least in part, a product of our environment.

I think when 10 year-olds are committing crimes as horrifying as this then somewhere along the line society has failed them.

Some would propose we solve a problem of violence in society with more violence, and as such, reflecting on this case doesn't make me feel angry, it just makes me feel very deeply saddened for all involved.

Bob, missing the fucking point....... any thread regarding the horrid tragedy that happened to James Bulger is usually taken over by people who want revenge against Venables and Thompson and which sick, cruel death they'd like bestowed upon them rather than wonder how shit a society/families are at bringing up children.

Because they were 10 years old. I certainly wouldn't want to live in a society that hangs kids.

But happy to live in the marvellous one that 10year olds commit murder in? Not any old killing but a dragged out sadistic murder of a little boy. I grew up in Belfast through the troubles and I've experienced 1st hand family and friends who were killed. Seen a lot of incidents in the years as well, but nothing and I mean nothing upset me or made me as angry as the killing of James Bulger. I cried for weeks everytime this was on the news. I'd a son the same age at the time who looked pretty much like James and the thought of it being him nearly drove me insane. Still makes me sick. I'd fucking choke the pair of them to death to this day. Rotten bastards.
