Remember that game v Sunderland, mid week I think.Wormatia Worms have been dining out on that transfer for years

Yeah, I think we were all mesmerised in the summer of 79.

Funny because I went to nearly all the cup games in 80/81 (13 out of 15), but it’s the 4-0 defeat at home to Sunderland that I recall the most.

We were sat on the front row of the Platt Lane, and I vividly remember Stepanovic gifting Sunderland two of the goals, with a daft penalty and a stupid back pass.

When it was 4-0 he almost diverted a Sunderland corner into his own goal, and then started laughing. Even on Granada’s iconic “City” documentary ( City 1981: "Soccer documentary on Manchester City" on Youtube), you can clearly picture Stepanovic pissing himself when Malcolm Alison gets sacked, and says goodbye to the players.

I suppose I should learn to forgive, but 35 years and two Premier League wins later it still rankles.

Sorry, I went off at a tangent, mainly because I'm pissed. It was definitely a League game, possibly the first home match of the season.
The reason I mentioned the cup games is because 80/81 is mainly remembered by City fans for the FA Cup run, and our unlucky defeat to Liverpool in the League Cup Semi Final (Alf Grey from Great Yarmouth anyone?)

First Stepy then fcuking Alf Grey...I wont sleep tonight now

His only comment was "Lebbe geht weider" which translates to "Life goes on" and which became a common expression among Frankfurt supporters whenever something bad happens to the club or in life.
.

I remember that you can buy tea cups in Frankfurt with that quote, alongside with other great Frankfurt philosophers.

A few of my travelling companions went to Bokelburg when City lost to Borussia in 1979

According to Wikipedia it’s been demolished, but I was wondering if there’s any sort of remaining monument or statue that we could visit in a few weeks.

Yeah, nothing like having a tea cup with Goethe on it next to a cup with Stepi on it. ;)

@Scaring Europe to Death: You could still see parts of the ground back in 2014, but as far as I know they where planning to build houses on it, so not sure how much is still to be seen. There is a small memorial statue with a football nearby.

Just looked at google maps and whilst the stadium still appears to be there, it looks like there is now a road running through the middle of it, so I suspect the picture for google maps is quite a bit out of date.

I´ve seen a documentary about 50 years of Bundesliga recently. They have build houses on it, they left some of the stands used as stairs. Not really a must see.
