Bundesliga Thread - 2023/24

@Scaring Europe to Death The part about Ozil is wrong though, Arsenal's club hierarchy profoundly shafted Ozil a new one for various reasons I wont go into. Every problem that he faced at that club was due to a falling out between himself and Arsenal's corporate executives. This then reflected as a result on how the footballing side of Arsenal was pressured to drop him.
Not disputing that mate as I'm not an Arsenal fan and wouldn't know either way.

This Bielefeld fan was also a huge supporter of the German National team and had travelled to all their recent World Cup Tournaments. His opinion was that Ozil wasn't a team player and that the Arsenal fans (just like the Germans) would eventually turn against him.

Understandable, I've always found Ozil's career trajectory a bit odd and as it turned out, there was indeed something secretive behind the turn of events around his and Arsenal's Covid-19 fiasco.

To be fair while Özil was not considered a major factor in us winning the WC (he was much better at the South Africa World Cup), his performances on the pitch were not as much of an issue, but him (and Gündogan) posing for pictures with Erdogan during a time where the relationship between Germany and Turkey were not the best.

He is proudly spotting a "Grey Wolves" tattoo as well which is the logo of a turkish right wing group. Özil doesn't seem to be the smartest guy either so he never managed to come up with some sort of convincing statement regarding the whole affair.

Outside of Germany you always hear the story that he fell from grace in Germany because of his faith and how racist Germany is. However that's complete bollocks.

Yeah it's a weird one Stefan as my conversation with the Bielefeld fan was in 2013 whilst queueing outside Bocham's stadium, and he was definitely in the "Ozil is overrated" camp.
He'd actually attended the 2010 World Cup, and from what I recall, he didn't even mention Ozil's Turkish roots. However, he definitely predicted that the Arsenal fans would soon turn on him.

I'm not sure why he was watching Bochum, but I remember it vividly because I was in the middle of a crazy run of matches

Wednesday CSKA Moscow 1 City 2
Friday St Pauli 0 Sandhausen 0
Saturday Fortuna Dusseldorf 1 Paderborn 6 Leverkusen 2 Augsburg 1
Sunday Borussia Monchengladbach 2 Eintracht Frankfurt 1
Monday Bochum 0 Kaiserslautern 0
Wednesday Newcastle 0 City 2 LC

That’s very impressive.
