Burnley (A) Post Match Thread

Be nice if Pep could give a diplomatic answer about the penalty and throw in a grande about the **** reffing us on Sunday.

What did he say?

No ref has the bollocks to call out a colleague
He said that either the VAR didn’t think it was a foul, or it didn’t meet the threshold for clear and obvious. Crouch is beside himself, he cannot believe it wasn’t overturned.

Great result
Solid and controlled performance.

We seem to be playing within ourselves a little which is a big change for Pep and this team (nothing wrong with that)

Defence and midfield were solid but I thought the forward line was poor.....Mahrez and Sterling especially....both offered very little (Sterling scored but should have had potentially another 2) and not for the first time this season (esp Mahrez again).....

Dias, Gundogan Stones were all excellent and B. Silva never stopped running

In that system is Zinchenko the better option than Laporte...I can understand why Pep played Laporte there tonight against much more physical players but overall from the last couple of months I do wonder if Zinchenko (in that system at least) is the better option.

3 pts ahead and still a game in hand

The next game is huge and not just becuase of who it is against.

Strange game. We completely dominated without cutting them apart like we usually do. Would have liked to see Bernie taken off after 80 to protect him.

Easy as you like.

Should have been 4/5 but was result was finalised after 5 minutes.

Win next week and the league is looking very, very good for us.

Great win without breaking sweat but the form of Sterling is very worrying for me.
He did lots of good work and looked sharp and did contribute to another great performance but his decision making is wank at times. He was in the box where he needed to be and gave Gundog something to aim at so fair play to him for that

Another win and another clean sheet.
The whole team was excellent tonight and worked so hard with and without the ball.
Can't stand Burnley the dirty, 6 fingered, cheating inbreds.
Thankfully though it looks like we have come through unscathed in terms of injuries.
Roll on the bin dippers on Sunday.

Was like a stroll in the park second half.

Burnley played right into our hands, pressed us like mad first half hour which was daft as fuck. They looked done-in second half.

We were okay, did what we needed to, defended brilliantly all over the pitch, created some really nice moves, but thought we were bobbins in their box... we chose the wrong option or finished with a poor shot far too often.

Bernardo worked his socks off, he was everywhere.

Three points, another clean sheet and still top of the table. Thoroughly enjoyed watching a fine exhibition of "Juego de Posicion" or "positional play" under Pep Guardiola:

“Positional Play does not consist of passing the ball horizontally, but something much more difficult: it consists of generating superiorities behind each line of pressure. It can be done more or less quickly, more or less vertically, more or less grouped, but the only thing that should be maintained at all times is the pursuit of superiority. Or to put it another way: create free men between the lines.

Positional Play is a model of constructed play, it is premeditated, thought about, studied and worked out in detail. The interpreters of this form of play know the various possibilities that can occur during the game and also what their roles should be at all times. Naturally, there are better and worse interpretations. There are also players that never manage to adapt to this model of play, which however, are sensational players and they manage to contribute many virtues to their team.
