Also, having no crowd at Annfield will help, Raheem.
Given they will have some combination of makeshift midfielders, second rate debutants or out of their league reserves at CB I would give Raheem one last chance to be selected there and encourage him to run at them all game.
If he can’t finally turn up at Anfield against those defenders and with no crowd then some serious, serious questions need to be asked about his mental strength

I always hear shit like this, but how many harsh red cards have we actually received in the last ten years?
Sergio getting all retrospective 3 match ban for an invisible elbow, missing the Derby is one off the top of my head.

Sterling celebrating a last minute winner on the pitch vs Bournemouth Vinne vs rag scum Delph vs Wigan when Alty wrote his name on the yellow card then sent him off

I think that is very unfair and inaccurate. This is the lad who got attacked at our training ground by some knuckle dragging bigots and then went out and played soon after

Sometimes red cards lead to interesting things. Joey Barton getting sent off in the cup tie against Spurs comes to mind (2004).
And of course, one of our greatest performances over the last ten years: Vin getting red carded away at Hull (2014).

David was awesome that day if I remember correctly

Correct. But MDM just stepped up too and said, right, no sweat, I'm bossing this at the back.

What a marvellous season that was, though, when I think back on it! So many great moments, such a roller coaster… When people put it at the bottom of their list of our four PL titles, sorry, I just can't see it. It's like asking me to choose between four children.

I will give Gundogan and Foden a rest for this one, Maybe Mendy will start?

Ederson
Cancelo Dias Stones Zinchenko/Meny
Rodri Bernardo Fern
Mahrez Jesus Sterling

Big game to win to give ourselves some breathing space going into a tough run of games. Get through the next 6 games still on top and we’ll have a far easier run in that anybody else.

Mendy has started 3 games vs. Liverpool and kept 3 clean sheets (5-0 17/18, 0-0 18/19, 4-0 19/20). Salah has done nothing in any of those games, so it would not surprise me if Pep chucked him in the XI for this one to rest Zinchenko and give him the opportunity to play a blinder and get in the team for Anfield.

Keeping in mind that those who don't start against Burnley in the midweek (and haven't played last night as well) will increase their chances of being picked against Liverpool on the weekend, if for nothing else than simply for the reason that those having played twice this week already might have had too many minutes in them already (and entering those red zones - or whatever charts/stats are on Pep's wall or computer where he tracks who's burning out and who needs resting) ... thus I'd rather save Foden, Torres, Rodri and Cancelo etc. and bring in Mahrez and Sterling (Mahrez is Mahrez and Sterling never ever does anything against Scousers, especially there) so play those in midweek ... then have a fresh(er) team raring to go at Anfield leaving out those who don't perform in big games or there historically and both are seriously out of form anyway. Yes, obviously queue Mahrez hat-trick and Sterlings' assists incoming against Burnley now then making it harder to drop them but I still would rather rest Torres and Foden midweek and start them two at the weekend.

Based on what I have said, I'd go like this ...

Against Burnley

Ederson
Walker - Stones - Laporte - Zinchenko
Bernardo - Ferna - Gundo

Mahrez - Jesus - Sterling

Against Liverpool

Ederson
Cancelo - Stones - Dias - Laporte
Bernardo - Rodri - Gundo

Torres - Jesus - Foden

nice post, but I would like to see Fernie vs Liverpool. they live on a faster attack and would breeze thru that mid, need Fernie to disrupt it.
