Cheers for all the advice guys n girls, lools liks John Lewis could be the one...I have used JL loads after someone pointed out to me last year they give you better deals on warranties than most other places!
Ps I wanted a small laptop/notebook instead of a tablet but mrs G wanted the Ipad and after using my mates in work, I think they are pretty good actually!
All I want it for is the internet and I also think the apple apps are very useful if not a little expensive!
Once again thanks for all the advice...Gaz

Baaaaaaa Dont be a sheep Gaz.If all you want it for is the internet and a few apps then why o why buy an ipad? The interface is sublime but restricted in terms of web use.Save yourself a bit of dosh and get a better web experience by going android.Have a butchers at the Asus EEE Transformer,Motorola xoom or the Galaxy tab 10.1 or 8.9.All Amazing tablets, not as expensive or restrictive as Apple and will be a lot better for what you want.Plus more free apps on the Android market.

Yes I know what your saying pal, and I kind of agree to some extent!
However, I have an android phone and dont rate it (or the apps for that matter!) and like I said earlier after using one at work for a while, I was very impressed with the speed, picture quality etc!
And her mum is also buying us the Ipad as a gift for our wedding anniversary, so dont really want to start asking for other stuff when its a gift (and remember I stated earlier that mrs G wants really an Ipad so it is her that is pushing it!)...ta

To be fair if the MiL is getting it fair enough but i wouldn`t write off android just yet?Not sure what phone you have but i have an early HTC desire and its excellent but thats been long surpassed by the likes of the Galaxy s2 and coming soon The Galaxy Nexus Prime. The prime will seriously surpass the iphone 4s as it was expected to go up against the iphone 5 so android phones are heading the pack right now.Ive seen the ipad2 in action..its fantastic but i`ve also used the android pads mentioned and considering they cost less and have a better flash and web experience i`d still go for the android tabs over apple.

Assuming by 'small acer laptop' you mean 'a netbook', don't. There are no words which can even go close to describing how shit they are.

I had an i pad but swapped it for the motorolla xoom it is a very good tablet just waiting for the xoom 2 now.

sorry to jump on this thread, but i'm after a tv from currys (£700 plus), does anybody know of any discount codes for the internet or whether they accept student discount (can get hold of one)?

I can't understand why people don't ask for a deal in the shop. When I bought my tv and home cinema system I asked for a discount 'cos I was paying cash, the guy said he couldn't do it so I said ok, I'm sure Comet will do me a discount if I'm spending over a grand, I got a hefty discount plus a stand thrown in. Discount came to around 20%. Got to have some neck and put them under pressure, I do it all the time these days, the wife walks off tutting but never moans when she sees how much I've saved.

they are probably cheaper in the USA (although I'd check the prices to be sure) and so if you know someone who might be coming over to the UK for Crimbo from here (no clues) and you're hellbent on saving a few bob I'd suggest checking the pricing differentials.

your Apple warranty should be good no matter where you buy one, and the power supply would (like any notebook computer) I expect be dual voltage.

otherwise you could look for a second-hand one or wait until after Christmas when you might find people who have them who don't want them dumping them on Ebay/Craigslist etc.

-- Tue Nov 29, 2011 6:45 am --

you can now buy netbooks over here new retail for $200; it's utterly amazing.

I think I also posted in another thread about buying non-branded merchandise direct from China; 'A Happy Deal' (?) and 'Dino Direct' are several I have used myself on multiple occasions, and Chinese/HK sellers are also once again out in force on Ebay; this is especially good for electronic stuff if you're happy with cheap and cheerful (like telephones & accessories, Android tablets etc) - stuff that your young kids can destroy, etc
