When we were in Spain the best place was the ATM, even gave better rates than the bank clerk sat 6 foot away. Just notify your bank before you go.

Dont the banks and credit card companies stick a transaction charge on top?

"€1:32 gets you £1 sir!"

Could be worthwhile standing just in front of them with a sign offering a better deal!

Walking up to a Travelex kiosk in the airport is a real school boy error
I've used Travelex in the past and they are really convenient if you buy online a couple of days before and then arrange collection at the airport desk

I didn't have a penny of Swedish Krona when I went to Stockholm. I was able to buy an Arlanda Express ticket to Stockholm station on my debit card and then just used cashpoints to buy expensive pints.

Money exchange places always seem to employ the friendliest people. Whenever I buy foreign currency they always ask me where I'm going and how long I'll be staying. It's really nice that people make such an effort to take an interest in my holiday plans.

Some did, some didn't, that's why we used certain ones. Some offer a fixed price per transaction so I suppose it all depends on how much you are withdrawing at each time as to how viable it is.
