Why isn’t Steph Houghton in the England squad. Absolute class act in Women’s football

Timng. Bad injury before the Euro's led to others being selected in her position. Considering the ouitcome you can't really have issues with that. She's also getting on a bit (in footballer's terms) so presuming Wiegman is looking to the future in squad selections since then. Also, Steph hasn't been that regular a selection for us with Morgan, Kennedy & Aleixandri being chosen ahead of her at times this season.

All that, and when she has played for us she hasn't been great.

She was very good on Sunday against chelsea though, her best game in perhaps 2 years.

She has had a much better second half, thought Cuthbert shoved her off the ball a few times in the first half, some of which really were shoves.

In the first half I think it was once. I couldn’t really see what happened until I took a close look.

Cuthbert clamps Hasegawa with a combination arm wrap and thigh kick. It pulls her back from the pass and almost makes her trip.



I cannot find a suitable English word to express my dislike for this play…

Hasegawa had three 1v1’s with James on the ball, once on the left side and twice on the right, and didn’t get beaten. So despite not getting the ball so much in the first half I think it was still good.
