BWSL City vs Arsenal 11/02 Match Thread

The best game they've put together for quite a while - despite the 17 attempts on goal and only two goals to show for it.

It was a cracking game. Might not have been as cracking if the Arse had nabbed an equaliser.though.

The tackling was tenacious and had the finishing matched we'd have had four or five.

Hemp and Kelly had the whip hand on both wings, Hasegawa, unlucky not to score with her effort onto the bar, and Angledahl were immense in the middle, and the defence was as solid as a brick wall.

The last quarter we saw the Arse just thump it over the top to chase. They were outplayed in the end. They won't like it - teams like that never do. It's the notion of entitlement that spurs them on.

Goal attempts by MCWFC in the last THREE games has passed the 70 mark.

After the midweek game I was fearing a similar result. Lots of vocal Arsenal fans on the tram were obviously thinking the same. We were at it from the off though and really should have gone in at least three or four goals to the good. We didn't drop our tempo in the second half either. I thought we were the better team all over the pitch. As others have said Angledahl and Hasegawa were fantastic and controlled the midfield. Hasegawa for me was player of the match.
I do think Taylor should have brought Fowler on for Shaw at about 75 mins, Bunny was running on empty by that point.
Loved how Hemp ran down the wing in the last few mins with a couple of players chipping at her heels, then when the ball was gone sat down for a bit.

Its bordering on ridiculous recently I've been keeping a check on it.

It's now 122 goal attempts, 59 on target for 17 goals, in the last 6 games.

Against, we've conceded 2 from 22 goal attempts, and both of those by arsenal.
I thought today, even at 2-0, those missed chances would come back to bite our already frozen arses. It'll be the collective misses that deny us anything this year. Even when we are playing well and the rest of the play is pretty good we are still missing goals that are easier than the ones we score.

My backside wasn't cold but my toes were. It's not just the misses that irritate me. There is not a team throughout the whole organisation, except perhaps the boys under 18's that are capable of maintaining possession from a throw in.

So did I when they scored, I thought we'd end up wilting, but credit to them they shook it off and took control again.

The other thing I liked today was how well we pressed, I hope that's a change we stick with, because if we can press that hard against these it's a good sign.

If we can conjure up that kind of performance against a good side i fail to understand why we don't play like that every game. The press was constant, and as far as I can remember we only used one sub - and Raso came on at 90! They must have been knackered.
