Calling all Bluemoon plumbers

Once again I am in need of your expertise!

The drain on our en suite sink sheared off (apparently because its made of some shite metal that's softer than Yaya going into a tackle).

I've followed all online guides and videos available, but I'm fucked if I can work out how to get the thing out of the sink to replace it.

Basically, where everywhere says to loosen the mounting nut, there isn't one. I can turn the pipe, which in turn rotates everything else, but I can't undo it to remove the thing. What I have to work with is this:

The marks are from where I've had my wrench on the thing. There just doesn't seem to be a way to undo the thing!

What am I missing? Where do I go from here? Hacksaw the thing off?

Ah, whilst not being a 'qualified' plumber, I can see that the sink will need replacing and probably half the contents of the 'en suite ensemble'! If yer sell yer ticket for Sunday, it'll come nowhere near the cost of one of those shiny things sticking down from yer sink!

So just keep going with it? I'm assuming some part of it is threaded. Is there a way to prevent the rest of it turning?

place a bucket on the floor under the trap - voila! (don't forget to empty it in to the sink after every visit, though)

Look in the middle of the plug-hole - some have a circular piece in the middle with a little slot either side for a screwdriver.

Seems to me you've been tightening it.

Turns out I had to wedge a screwdriver through the drain and into the overflow to stop the whole thing turning. Didn't help that whatever cowboy fitted the thing before I moved in used a ridiculous amount of putty and sealant on the thing!
